This has to be the HARDEST part of growing mushrooms.
Im on my 1st grow, and I cannot contain myself. I find myself checking on the myco bags at least 3 times a day.....
This project is ALL I can think about...Im driving myself practicly insane. Night and Day. Its even penetrating my dreams....
I just cased my 1st cake today also....Jebus...
For all you experenced mycologists, how do you deal with the waiting peroid? I do not think I can take this much longer.
Peace,

Read up here on the shroomery in the mean time. The so called "risks" involved with looking at colonizing jars or bags is WAY overrated IMO. As long as your prep is done right and your using the correct filters and the filters are dry your not gonna F/U a myco bag or a jar by picking it up and examining it. Some people worry about light exposer too which I've never seen as a problem and I hear experienced growers like RR say you can incubate in a lite room.
What I'm saying is feel free to examine the progress of your grow as much as you want. I tend to make it a once a day thing.

Mush/cult will teach you Patience.
The more Patience you acquire.
The better things go.
You cannot rush nature.
Rushing mush/cult can lead to failure.
Get used to it.

Yeah, I've got a tip.
Instead of constantly checking the work you've already done, do more work to expand your grow.
Do you have any spare equipment (myco bags/spawn jars) that is not being used? Do you have a little extra cash on hand to buy some with? Need a bigger/second incubator or fruiting chamber to work with? Want to make a better glovebox? Well, do something about it.
Those are just a few ideas. Of course, knowledge is the greatest investment in your cultivation skills. You can also research bigger, better ways to grow here on The Shroomery, or ways to improve in your technique in general.

yep all of the above. Keep reading. I think every enthusiasts' first time was like that. I actually enjoy sitting in bed obsessing over how I'm going to do this or try that. Also the patience comes with time and experience. After you have a few grows under your belt the tension leaves and IMHO the whole experience becomes more relaxed and enjoyable.
By careful about over tending when you start fruiting though. I think Hyphae said it best, "I find if ya don't love them to death they seem to do pretty damn good." When fruiting too much FAE cant hurt humidity and dry your casings/cakes out, as can over misting. Of course this depends on your setup. But i personally found that my projects did better when i limited myself to messing with them to two or three times a day tops. Now i have to push myself to give them enough care at times.
Good luck, never stop reading.

Dont worry it will be easy after the first grow. My first grow I checked my damn jars every 5 minutes. Now I know there isnt shit to see for a few weeks, so I just forget about them.
Its hard, but once you realize that they are only going to take longer (in your head at least) the more you look and think about them, the easier it will be to put it out of your mind.
Im going absolutely insane right now, Im out of the country and one of my friends is harvesting my first successful flush for me. I get news like once a week about the damn thing, and its killing me not knowing how my babies are doing and if the humidity is right and if the polyfill is still tight and so on... but oh well, i cant do shit about it from here and I wrote him a page guide of what to do, so he shouldnt fuck anything up...
but goddamnit he probably will, or so my paranoid mind keeps telling me.

I like to do hobbies that take my mind off my mushies.
-Wake up and check my shit -go skateboard -work on building magic decks/playtest (almost as obsessive as shrooms) -get high -play drums -wash, rinse, repeat.
This cycle takes about a whole day, keeping my mind from getting stagnant.
Just keep yourself pre-occupied

hey man, totally identify with that. But like has been said, after you taste your first fruits, the "urgency" will wain. As has also been said, you could start your next batch, reading, planning, and reading some more. There is ALWAYS something else that is worth learning about a little more.
GL and keep us posted on your progress. We aare all very interested in other's experience as well. cheers!

Enjoy the first grow. The novelty and anxiousness of the first grow is exciting.

I like to learn, building new projects and planning activities for tripping. I like to search new tripping music and get used to good artists and their message. I like to make some cool theme based music collections for the next trip, and while the whole three hour play list is carefully selected, my flush is ready. This is a good hobby while waiting for harvest cause in my experience, music gives the trip what tyres give to a car. When you carefully select good tyres, it's more pleasant to go driving a three hour road trip.
Other thing is finding some cool gadgets and beautiful things to decorate my tripping environment, witch usually is at home. Wondering at second hand- and antique shops takes your mind away from your babies.
Usually when tripping music and decorations for tripping are made it's time to eat the fruit of your work and inspect the beautiful environment you made while waiting. Chancing little things and music makes always a new tripping experience.
