Yesterday my friend checked his bulk tubs that have been fruiting sparatically for about a month now.
one seems to be doing ok on the surface, this one has produced the most mushrooms, but the other one has produced fewer, and now is showing green spots on the surface... after digging into the tub with green on it, he discovered at least half of the tub did not colonize at all, and is completely green underneath. (both of these tubs have been smoldering for 2 months+ now... innoculated with corn cob)
However, half of the "greenized" tub is very thick with mycelium, and smells ok.
the other tub, he fears, is also green somewhere... as they were both innoculated with the same batch of what he thinks to have been contaminated corn cob mycellium.
so his question is, should he let the healthy tub continue to fruit, as it has been fruiting wonderfully... about 3 large shrooms per week. ( I do mean large.. he just picked a 71g mushroom this morning.)
or should he dump both tubs?
next, if either of us eat some of the mushrooms that were grown off of the green tub, will we get sick? The mushrooms appear healthy, look healthy, smell healthy..
any feedback appriciated.

Looks can be decieving, toxins can travel through the mycelia easily, so if you have green, then the mushrooms will probably be bad, even tho they look good. Why not take a straw and jab it into the tub, then pull it out. Use a clear straw and you can see the core of the tub in this way. If you see green in the strawed sample 2 inches down then you know thats were it is. Do it in two or three spots if you really want to be sure. Anyway, if you see green, or any other contam, it's best to through away.

Often when the green shows it's ugly head it's already to late as its prolly already in the core ,best to just get rid of it imo it can really put a dampper on future projects with all them spores floating around if you n=know what i mean .MEW
