> oil around the rim of the lid?
Be careful with oil on the rim of a pressure cooker. I did this with the rubber seal on an old pressure cooker and after a few uses the oil turned into a hard varnish like crap that took forever to clean off. I was using plain vegtable oil, so that may make a difference. After doing research, the canning faq (out on the net) suggested using petrolium jelly instead of oil.

Suess,
The All American doesn't have a rubber seal. It is a metal to metal seal.
And I use Vasoline on my All American.
You can find the manual online.....and you can find the racks too.

sup billy i use birdseed all the time and what i do is 3 diff methods i fill 1/2 pint jars with dry bird seed but leave a 1/2 inch space at top and fill them with distilled water to the top of the birdseed line then p/c for 1h or i lightly boil the bird seed for 45 min. or until they start to burst let drain for 15min. then put in jars and p/c for 1h or i use 50/50 birdseed and dung(not store bought straight from pasture) let sit in water over night drain and fill jars and p/c for 1h and the water line i use in my p/c is i fill with water up to the bottom of the metal rim of the jar lid. let boil for 5 min put cover on and let it go for an hour i dont have a psi gauge but i put it on low heat and ive never had a prob with contams hope this helps

Those may be fairly standardized. you may be able to pick one up in a nearby store.
You're talking about the weighted cap thing that controlls the pressure, right?
