"Heavenly encounters"

Not sure if this thread should be here or in S&M, but I'm familiar with this forum so I thought I'd post it here. Mods please move it on over if warranted. Hell, it may not belong anywhere for that matter.
I saw something on Tv today that surprised me. I was watching a program and a commercial came on for one of the local churches where they have a snippet of the preacher's sermon and what he said in those ten seconds caught me off guard. The first part of the commercial was a voice-over talking about the church's location and hours and how great it was, then it focused on the preacher and he said "Whenever an Earthly being comes into contact with a Heavenly Being, there is fear".
I'm not much of a religious person and though out my short career of searching for....? I have had much fear of what I have encountered (albeit, this has mostly been the parts of myself that I have somehow chosen to hide or deny), but I always thought that if a person were to run into an Angel (which is what I'm assuming he's talking about , being a preacher and all) that there would be bliss, not fear.
Of course before I started meditating and using Psychedelics as a tool along my path I thought that those would always be blissful too, so I may just be naive.
It just struck me kinda funny and actually I felt some relief hearing this.(Cop out? Hmmmm, I wonder) I guess because that statement pretty much surmises the human condition/reaction to, well, everything. I dunno. It struck a weird cord with me though and I couldn't wrap my brain around what he said. I didn't really have anyone to discuss this with so I thought I'd post about it and see if anyone had any thoughts on the matter...

For some people, it is a frightening risk. To me, that's the psychedelic experience." Terence McKenna

Fear of anything unknown seems to be pretty normal for us humans.

Yes, I mean it seems like common sense and that's what I meant by this:
"I guess because that statement pretty much surmises the human condition/reaction to, well, everything."
I can totally understand the concept of being fearful, but I guess the two things that blew my mind were that the words were delivered by a Christian and the subject he was describing.
It was like it was too honest for me to believe he said it or something. Really uncharacteristic from my limited experience.
Like I said, I still haven't wrapped my brain around it.

like george bush, the radical preacher is selling fear and buying souls.
encounters that are bigger than usual are not necessarily full of fear; fear is not essential at all.
What a person wants is to get past that but noooo... this guy is hypnotically telling you that fear is the wall and you need him to provide his walls to protect you.
I think this is more evidence of the trend towards sick externalization and fundamentalist capitalism, as opposed to healthy capitalism and responsibility for one's own action and mental state.

Ah! That's the kind of fresh perspective I was looking for to add another dimension to my thoughts on this!!
Thanks RGV!
