Many old blenders will have PP top parts, that will PC.
Many have a thread that fits pint/quart mason jars.

Or, if you can find a small SS container.
Use a drill & chuck attachment to spin the blade.

I've been trying to find a new blender that fits one quart mason jars without luck. I might have to check the goodwill. Thanks agar.
Fortunately, you don't need to PC the whole thing. For water, a simple boiling will be plenty. We only have to PC grains due to bacterial endospores which are not present in water or plastic.

Thanks agar. If it will withstand the PC, it's perfect for LC. Just unscrew the cap in a glovebox or flowhood, and drop an agar wedge right in, then blend.

I have a couple of the bases I found at thrift stores...but I can't find a decent clean motor.....
and the new blenders don't seem to be built the same as the old skool blenders.

But I'm just not gonna drop 500 bux on an eberwhatchamacallit.

You have to contact the seller directly and sound somewhat professional, I just told him I was a mushroom cultivator but I don't think they really need to know anything.

You guys can laugh all you want, but I'd like to unveil my new in-lab blender. All the parts are autoclavable, and I don't have to worry about lids fitting mason jars. It's great for cloning and I think I'm going to try it with some lc's (just for fun).

Enjoy.

So far I've used the Magic Bullet about 4 times without any problems.

PC at 20psi for 20 minutes with sterile water inside. Open it up in front of the flowhood (or glovebox if you like) and drop in a piece of tissue to clone. Screw on cap, and macerate .

I'm just thankful my girlfriend was up late one night and thought it'd be a good investment. Fucking informercials huh?

from their FAQ:

"Q: It says everything is dishwasher safe, why did my cups come out deformed after I put in the dishwasher?

A: As mentioned in your User Manual, you should always wash the cups on the top shelf of you dishwasher. It's very likely that you have your dishwasher set to sanitize mode which uses extreme heat to clean the contents of the dishwasher. Most dishwashers have several settings that use less heat than sanitize, reduce the setting and always put your bullet cups on the top shelf."

I'm not sure how hot dishwashers get on sanitize, but this may be a concern with PC'ing.

huh, I donno about this - I have been looking for a blender that would withstand PCing...

I'm not sure if I am ready to drop $60 on that magic bullet thing, I'd like to see some more reports.

Update:

So I have yet to have any problems with the actual cup melting. Everything withstands pcing just fine. However, I have noticed a leak in the blending mechanism at the top (or base). This doesnt seem to be a heat induced problem, and maybe just a wear and tear issue. Verdict? Maybe these things might be a little cheaply made?

It worked for me just fine so far up until this. Maybe with some searching, someone can find something similar?

And Tweex, you may be right about that thing being kinda cheap - although I do believe ya that it stands up to PCing.

Maybe people can post some exact brands and models that they know will fit on mason jars or are autoclavable?

It would be nice to make a works/won't work list of blender types...

I just buy the replacement blades at walmart. The "disc" shaped thing with blades attached and a grey o ring. You can look at it, it's obviously the same diameter as a reg mouth mason jar.

Personally, I've got at least 7 blender bases, so I know I've got one to fit it, but you could just compare the replacement blade with the blenders available for sale to find one that fits. It's never taken me more than 2 minutes to find a suitable blender, which is why I have so many!

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
