About to inoculate, is this correct

Ok my jars were done boiling at 4pm, it is not 9:30, roughly 5 1/2 hours. I have not lifted the lid on the pot, I wanted to make sure I'm doing this correct first. I plan on taking the jars out of the water, do I dry them off? Then remove the foil, and sterilize the needle, and put roughlt 1/4cc per hole. My main question is then do I cover the holes with tape or leave them to vent. Just let me know asap please.
Thank You Squeeky

I'd say you should cover them with tape at least until the mycellium has a chance to start covering the cake so that it has a better chance of beating any air borne contams. Also 5 1/2 hours isn't really a long time to wait for innoculating. Make sure the jars are not hot to the touch and remember that the centers of the cakes are goint to be warmer than the outside

How about trying half with the tape on, and half with the tape off?
Assuming that you are working with PF jars, don't worry about the contams for the jars with the tape off, because the dry layer of verm is acting as a protective barrier anyway.

man i hate that wait, waiting for jars to cool, ive learned best thing to do is make em before ya go to bed, this way when ya wake up there cool.
I would wait minimum 5 hrs before touching them, I personally dont tape holes, I just wrap tinfoil over the jars... pressure cook, take jars out when cool take tin foil off, innoculate, and replace tinfoil.
I get no contams atleast non im aware of and things seem to look good.
im no expert but i hope that helps

Well first 5 jars, now have spores in them. Hopefully I did everything correctly. I didn't place tape on them, cause I'm keeping them in a tupperware, that is air tight. I have 5 more jars to do, this time I'm going to let then boil for an hour and half, and cover the tops with foil after inoculateting.
My fingers are crossed. How many days should I wait to check for contam, or germination?

if you have a verm layer, you dont really need to tape the holes, a lot do till colonization start to kick in, the shrooms need the extra co2 at the start, but it isnt necessary

you should give em about 3+ days normally to see em, ive had some start 2 days after, it just all depends on how it is inside for the spores. just sit back, and watch, any funky colors, chuck it, clean the jar (with bleach in a bucket, i also use simple green too) and reuse it! peace rain
