Thoughts on a everlasting cake??

I have used the big blue jack in the box straws to rehydrate the cakes. I was wondering if I made a solution that is BRF(Brown rice flour) and water, Will it not only rehydrate the cakes but resupply them w/ nutrients and make them flush more?? Any comments would be appreciated.....

don't add brf to your water. just use plain old water.

By using nutrients in the water in the straws you're promoting contamination growth inside the straw and thus inside your cake. Maybe adding H2O2 would help. I never tried this but the word from most experienced folks (which probably tried that already) is that it's more productive and efficient to use new substrate. However you can try and post your results
Good Luck! Hope your cakes have the chance enjoy the experience of immortality...

I hear some people dunk cakes in milk to feed them with extra nutrients....not shure of how this works tho.

i've got a tray of cakes right now that i've lost track on what flush they are. i know for sure they've gone past 6th flush. but i don't recommend the brf water 'cause the brf will start to forment. then you end up with rice wine. i don't think the mushrooms would like rice wine. the same happens when you forget to sterilize your cakes within 2-3 days. it smells exactly like rice wine when you crack the jars open.

i've dunked in skim milk [reconstituted nonfat dry recommended] with success. they must be refridgerated during the dunk, and rinsed off good before returning to terrarium. i recently began following up the milk dunk with a 5-10 minute dip in a very dilute[no more than 1 part bleach per 100 water] bleach water solution to sterilize the cake surface, and they are now fruiting nicely, no sign of any contams 4 days later.

check for this-
they make these crytals of flax seed -it will come in crystal form-inn a blue bag-
should be found at an organic food store beside the flax seed meal in a cooler-this would probably work, sice the crystals will disolve nicely in water-shouldnt have contam problems either

also powered milk works really good-
just add it to your water-its loaded with nutrients-and it wont spoil-milk will spoil ,so be very careful

sad, but it will spoil as is. my next series of planned experiments i'm going to try straw-feeding a milk-bleach solution, the 1 part bleach to 100 milk hopefully will prevent spoilage while the cake absorbs milk thru the straw, dunno if it will work yet but that's the plan.

I'm with Hippie on this one.
I never go after a 4th or 5th flush.
My first 3 flushes are so large they eat up almost all the nutrients in the cake.
Just start new cakes...more often.
