Hey everyone..
this is my first grow with mushies.. and i think i'm going good so far.. but i want to be sure that I don't F it up from here.. so please let me know if I'm doing the right thing, and what I can do to prevent from F'ing up. thanks.....
first things first.. I used the PF tek for 'simple minds' sounded like me and had pretty good instructions, so i went with it. I bought 2 syringes of hawaiin spores and followed the directions. So far, it looks ok.. as of today, all four cakes that are incubating have visible mycelium (please excuse my spelling).. and it's all white, which is good i think. By incubating, i mean it's in a translucent rubbermaid sitting above my floor vents.. when the heat is on.. it's about 85 F.. when my wife turns the heat off.. about 70 F. Is my setup ok? an help/comments would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

Sounds good.
but you might consider making an incubator. that way you won't have the temps going up and down. the jars might take longer or stall with the heat going up and down all the time. just a suggestion.
good luck!

I have found that letting the inoculated jars sit on top of the hot water heater works well. It is always dark and around 80 - 82 F consistently.. So far I've had no trouble with this.

First off, I would keep the temp as close to 83 F as possible and the rH around 70-75%. A cheap way to build the incubator would be to pick up some rubbermaid tupperware at Wally World. Make sure its large enough to fit all your cakes in and have some extra room. Throw a heat pad below the tupperware and put it on Low to raise the temp. Then get a 12oz soda can and cut the top off and sterilize it with Lysol or something. Fill it about half way with Perlite and add like an inch or two of water (I would throw in like 1/5 tablespoon of H2O2 to make sure H20 doesn't contaminate cakes). Maybe use Spring Water or Distilled Water. If the humidity doesn't get in the wanted range (it should though) add a tad more H2O. Just be sure to open the tupperware once a day and fan it out real quick. Don't open it too much thought becuase you'll let contaminants in if you do. Oh yeah, everything I mentioned can be found at Wally World. Hope that helps some.
