Can this be true?
    #637601 - 05/20/02 09:21 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Hello! Some of my jars don't colonize at the bottom. I think that this is because I flip them and because of too much water. It seems that water starts moving at the top of the jar. If you don't flip the jars, the water will go to the top also, but there is the dried verm, that will absorb it. I was wondering if this is the reason...

hi there, im not sure exactly what you are doing, are you flipping them right off in the beganing, or are you waiting till the top colonizes, then flip em? thats what i do, even if there is a layer of verm on the top, but i also dont use really think layers of verm for my top, i found that works about the same, i nomally take my 1/2 wide mouth jars, fill it up to close to the top, put a very slim amount of verm. you should flip the jars, after the top has pretty much colonized, so that way the bottom will now have the same capibility to colonize, like the top did
hope this helps
peace

YEs, I wait them to colonize a little bit and then flip them. The problem is that mycelium is like sweating and all the water gets at the bottom(now top) and it doesn't colonize.

position it so the excess water droplets drain into the verm. barrier if you see water pooling like that. the bottom will finish much faster. just don't do it too soon, wait until the water starts to build-up a little.
