Restoring old Photos ?
    #6375683 - 12/15/06 11:16 PM (17 years, 4 months ago)

I just got myself a full version of photoshop last week and ive been playing around with afew of my mums old photos.
Ive no experience at all and my manual won't work so i'm making it up as i go along.

Ive managed to get this:

looking like this:

(My mums the girl right in the centre,, that photo's 55 years old,)

by using the clone stamp to to copy close areas,, then i usually end up with some colour difference so i'm using the spot healing brush to blend the areas in..
That tends to bring out coloured pixels that don't look authentic so i have to use the blur tool to get anything like close to something good looking,, but it's never perfect.

It still needs work but i don't want to carry on doing much more incase i end up making it look worse, any tips on that would be great !

The main thing i'm wondering is if anyone has any links to programs i can use to turn black and white photos into good coloured copies.
I'm not sure if photoshop is good for it of if i need a more specific program to use.

If anyone has any experience any help would be appreciated.

I'll stick this in aswell because i like it,,. I'm kinda fascinated by old time photos at the moment.

Decently done.
Is your mum still around/have good enough vision to appreciate that photoshopped pic?

That's good to know.
Anybody that takes the time to scan and touch-up old photos exhibits a great appreciation of the past and future, possibly even the present.
That's cool of you to share that moment in time with us.
Keep up the good work.

Wow, that's crazy....this is exactly what I've been doing to old photos for about 2 months now.  I lost my Dad when I was 6 so I've been going through, scanning, and fixing all of the ones that are bent/ripped, etc.  It's painstaking work, but it's so worth it.

Here's 2 that I've done so far.

Before

After

(That's me and my brother)

Here is the hardest one I had to do....this picture was pretty much ripped to shit, because I carried it in my wallet with me for so long.  I think that you can slightly tell that parts of it have been photoshopped but it's better than the original (IMO).

right on.. do you by chance have a version of photoshop that you can post for me to download? I tried downloading this one from a bitorent and it fucked with my computer, so I got rid of bitorent all together.
