OK it's time to move up from grow kits (where it seems like only PC's are available) and start to learn how to grow these things from spores. What's the best advice for a beginner to learn how to grow. Also I'm in NYC does that pose any problems.

Start reading the FAQ here at the Shroomery. Pay special attention to the PF TEK and Ryche Hawk's birdseed tek. There are a variety of ways to grow from spores, but these are probably the simplest ways.

If you don't own a pressure cooker/canner, you might want to start with the PF TEK - it's the only one I'm aware of that doesn't actually require 15psi sterilization, since the substrate is brown rice flour and vermiculite.

The best advice for a beginner to learn how to grow is to read the Faq in the grow/find section then follow the PF Tek to the letter
