What is the best casing mix?
a. vemiculite only
b. vermiculite/peat moss/lime/oyster shell
c. coconut coir
d. wheat straw
e. other mix (Please specify what exactly you are using)
This poll is not offical. This question comes to you from months of research. I have tried many different strains on all casings except c and d. I have not had good results yet and since conmtams are a problem I have decided to stick with vermiculite only because I about ready to give up. All I want is an even flush! I break the mycelium up in 2 in pieces on the bottom of container, then evenly apply a sterile layer of vermiculite, evenly means accounting for the peaks and vallies and crevices in the soil. Then in the incubator for 3 days, then to the humidity chamber at >=90% humidity until pinns stop forming.

This is about the 50th poll about "the best casing mix" since I've been a member here. I think 50% verm and 50% coco coir is very good.

yeah but coir drys out pretty fast if you have the humidity below 100 rH. i think that adding verm helps somewhat...

Well I think he meant that he spawned the poo with the grain, and then cased with 50/50.

Stating its usage as a SUBSTRATE due to its high nutritional value. Casings should not have any nutritional value as it will harbour contaminants.
Noticed you bought some, so just make sure you dont use it as a casing. You can take your cakes/grain and spawn them into dung and or straw. Colonize this for a week or so, until its been 100% colonized. Then add your casing and fruit from there.
