Top 15 Albums of 2006 - IMO, that is.
    #6369756 - 12/14/06 10:11 AM (17 years, 3 months ago)

The top 5 get ordered, the final ten are just a smattering in no particular order.

1. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
2. Thom Yorke - The Eraser
3. Band of Horses - Everything All The Time
4. The Big Sleep - Son of the Tiger
5. Built to Spill - You in Reverse

(honorable mentions)

The Black Keys - Magic Potion
Oh No! Oh My! - (self-titled)
Oakley Hall - Gypsum Strings
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
Love is All - Nine Times That Same Song
TOOL - 10,000 Days
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - (Self-titled)
The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale

I definitely recommend checking out each and every one of these albums if you haven't already.

I don't listen to much rap, but apparently your reading comprehension skills aren't so hot today - the last album listed is a hip hop record.

Having just smoked a joint, driving through Joshua Tree National Park listening to that album...one of the best moments of my life.

I didn't think At War with the Mystics was so hot. They just stuck with the same sound they had on Yoshimi, rather than developing something new as they always have before.

I wasn't super-impressed by 10,000 Days or At War With the Mystics, though I enjoy both. I thought all in all this year had a weak crop of records, though I didn't put any EP's on that list and there were lots of promising young talented groups putting EP's out this year.

I thought both those albums were shitty - Black Holes and Revelations was childish bullshit, they went seriously downhill...and Stadium Arcadium had 2 bad songs for every 1 good one.

I liked but didn't love the new Yo La Tengo, am iffy on the Arctic Monkeys, and made a serious oversight omitting Man Man.  Jose Gonzalez I've seen live but haven't heard the album yet.

Indeed.

The one sentence that makes me cringe more than any other is, "There's no good music being made these days." You know...the people who listen to the classic rock radio station and don't actually look for new music.

Yah, but both we're still better than most of the horse shit released this year. Overall most albums have been dissapointing this year, I thought 10,000 days was a let down after hearing aenima and lateralus.

Both albums did have a few exceptional tracks - shes only 18, assasin

The Muse album reminded me of shitty science fiction/fantasy novels that never make it much further than an initial paperback printing on shitty stock.
