Got some poo, but its fermenting :(
    #6369299 - 12/14/06 06:51 AM (17 years, 3 months ago)

I got some poo yesterday and did agars suggestion about putting it in a jar with water for 12-24 hours to see if it starts to ferment. Well the poo looked and smelled well aged, but this morning I looked at the jars and they are bubbling up and kinda stinky  Is there anything I can do to fix the poo besides putting it outside and spraying it with a hose and letting it dry and repeating? I don't have the room for that

Nope. You need to spread it out in the sun. Get creative.

Sure, spread it out in the shade. It just takes longer.

Well, what I meant was, what if spreading it outside at ALL is NOT an option? Lets say for instance if someone lived in an apartment and didn't want to go out and put a bunch of horse shit on the lawn for everyone to see!

You don't have legs? If you're saying you can't put the manure in a bag and walk to the nearest roof, vacant lot, landscaped area, or fence line, then just do the pf tek and forget using manure. I live in a high-rise condo in a major city and use manure, straw, compost, etc., all the time so I have little sympathy for those who don't wish to put out the effort. It's not that hard to find a place in the sun.

Yes of course I have legs! But I just don't feel right walking down the road with bags of poop and laying it out in the sun. I figured there was a way to keep it indoors (PRIVATE) And get it done, like maybe soaking in warm water and squeezing the water out and repeating. And doing that would actually take MORE effort then dropping it off somewhere for all to see and picking it up later! I'm willing to put effort into it if I wasn't I wouldnt have bought a steroclave and I wouldn't be in this hobby at all! I just want to keep it private! I'm not asking for sympathy, Im asking for advice on how to prepare poo that isn't leached properly in the PRIVACY of your home!

Yes I am AWARE of tennstud, and I didnt feel like waiting for 2 months! This post is accomplishing absolutely nothing but basically calling me lazy for not wanting to take 60 pounds of shit down the road in a sunny spot, and then linking me to a vendor that sells something I already have?!?! Neither of those are any help! But thanks anyways!

I ordered 100lbs pre-past from tenn stud and got it in less than 3 weeks. anyway, there was someone on here that leeched their poo by putting it in a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled into right above the bottom. I think they were something like 2 x 1.25in holes on opposite sides of the bucket. Then he ran it under a tub faucet for several minutes. I think he did it somewhere between 5-15 minutes, but my suggestion is to do it until you feel it's right. Sorry the description is so vague but it was over a year ago that I read the thread

coir is another option. works almost as good as poo for me, and can be bought at most pet stores. I would think this would be more 'apartment friendly' than lugging poo out to the sun to dry. I am partial to Tenn Stud, but if there were delays or whatever, I have a few blocks of coir to fall back on.

You could spread it out on a tarp in the middle of your apartment and use fans.  :poopbanana: I doubt thats an option either. lol!

got fermented poo?  make poo beer!

but really, nobody is getting down on you, think about what you're asking us... tips on solving a problem that involves little effort on your part?  we've given you alternative ideas too.

i do recall reading somewhere about "speed leeching" poo in the shower.  so if you want to put 60 pounds of shit in your tub so that you don't have to go outside and look "suspicious" thats an option, search around there's a thread on it somewhere

but barring that whats your hangup on taking poo somewhere else that's not "private" to get the job done?  somebody sees you dumping out a bag of what looks like dirt somewhere isn't going to immediately assume you're up to no good... they might think it odd, but they're not going to have any clue what you're up to.

if you're still not satisfied then you're outa luck.  plan better next time.  have pre-pastuerized product on hand ahead of time so you're not waiting 2 months.  or simply choose poo that's been properly aged and is dry next time so it won't be an issue in the first place.

SPEED LEACHING can be done in a washing machine.

Fill an old pillow case 1/3 to half full.

Use locking type cable ties to hold it closed.

Run it 1 cycle on "gentle".

Obviously, don't add soap, detergent, or bleach.

The object is to remove the poop soup goop.
What remains is mostly fiber.
If it doesn't smell like ammonia, urine/piss/shit.
It's good to go.

Thats what I thought too, and it smelled fine until I loaded it up in jars like you have said to do to test it. about 12-18 hours later it was stinky and bubbly

Agar brings a new meaning to the "his and hers"

I don't know what is worse, when I had my mom over and she found my 120cc syringe and thought I was on dope or her finding a big bag of poo in the washer...

I was in a similar situation a week ago when I picked aged shit out of a field when it was raining. The stuff is still dark but it smells like dirt so I decided to lay the pieces out in a cardboard box next to my heater in the apartment. My room smells like dirt now but its not a shit smell so I'm ok with it.

Dude, just put the poop in planting pots, and set them outside your door. Like anyones gunna steal a pot, and your neighbors will just think you're not fit out to be a gardener. Even better when you have a trashy couch and a propane grill sitting outside your door! Not speaking from experience or anything..
