I've got 2 Plantasia Mystery cakes--done with the first flush.
I'm trying the dunk tek to rehydrate them. Twenty four hours after being placed in the fridge; I plan on grabbin' my trowel and putting a thick layer of soaked vermiculite on the tops, and placing right back in the terrarium.
I have no digital camera, but I'll keep you all posted on if/how well they pin again.

Well, 24 hours later and I've removed them from the fridge, and gave them a double ended casing--as PF calls it. A nice layer of moistened vermiculite top.
They look white and healthy.
Also gave the perlite in the aquarium a few glugs of water.
I'll keep you all posted.

not much to report, had to harvest one of them, was laying in the perlite on the bottom.
The other is a mighty pin, about .5" long now.

well, about 24 hours later now, I know this isn't exactly a "must read" thread! but I like to report daily for what it's worth.
The half inch mighty pin has become a 4" shroom.
The thick layer of vermiculite placed on top for the double ended tek had become thick with mycelium. I expect it will show modest pinning within a week.
I'll keep you all posted!

well, a little over 24 hours later and unexpectedly; while the thick growth of mycelium continues on top, there are lots of pins on the bottom of the cake.
the 4 inch shroom hasn't grown much in length, but has gotten quite fat, and the unbroken cap is perfectly round--about the diameter of a dime.
I wonder if the third flush after the next dunking will yield larger, but fewer fruits; as happens with non-dunked cakes.
I'll keep you posted!

a day later and the pins around the base are growing.
the mighty shroom is about 7" long, and the cap is roughly the size of a 50 cent piece. the veil looks to be stretched to its limit and about 5 minutes from breaking!
keep ya posted.

well, for all you faithful readers who keep returning to this thrill-a-minute post:
I'm overjoyed at the overwhelming response to this thread.
The thick growth on the top casing layer is white, but not producing pins. The bottom tho, has 5 or 6 pins on each cake with the largest over an inch.
For those who continue reading this--I harvested the monster this morning. It was about 9" long. Probably the largest I've ever grown. The veil was broken, but hanging from the cap, not yet an anulus. Not only long but damn meaty I may add. But, alas it's the only one.
Please, folks. . . let's keep the roar down to a minimum--you're wakin' my girlfriend.

well, the second flush is done. two cakes--3.5 dry grams. I got the answer to my question. The second flush on dunked cakes is similar to non-dunked cakes in that there are fewer shrooms, but they're monsters!
I have never had a legitimate 2nd flush with cakes. Usually they got too dry. I think this dunking thing is a good thing.
I just set the cakes for their second dunk, I'll post what the 3rd flush weighs.

This tek is suppose to kill the dreaded green contam. too right? A friend of mine is giving it a try with the bleach/vinegar dunk tek.

how thick is your top layer of verm and could you tell if it helped keep the cake nice and hydrated? i just dunked my pre 2nd flush cakes but i havent read anything on putting a damp verm layer on top it sounds like a good idea do you sterilize the verm beforehand then place on the dunked cake?

<><>how thick is your top layer of verm and could you tell if it helped keep the cake nice and hydrated?<><>
My vermiculite layer on top was nearly a quarter inch thick, and no--I didn't sterilize it. Vermiculite tends to be clean enough outta the bag. I used distilled water to moisten. I know for a fact that dunked cakes are just inherently more "nice and hydrated" than non-dunked cakes, but without a control group that wasn't treated to the double ended case tek, I have no way of knowing if the vermiculite layer played the larger role, or the dunking.
I have my suspicions that the dunking was the attribute that made the real difference.
Hippie, it's taken me a little over three years to admit this, but you're a fuckin' genious!
