noob pinning question

Well as of last week I've got nine fully colonized jars (BR and Verm, PF tek naturally), and this is my first grow. This is also my first time having to ask a question here, as I've found the answers to all my other questions through searching posts in the past. My questions regarding pinning, as I've been following the beginner grow guides on this site and all of them say that once the jars are fully colonized, put them in incandescent light for a few hours a day to initiate pinning cause they're photo tropic(sic). So I went ahead and have been using either a 15 watt bulb close up, or a 40 watt bulb from a few feet away (don't want the container to get too warm, so I alternate) and have been doing this for going on 9 days now. Well according to the guides, in 5-10 days I should see the 'pins'inside the jar that should unmistakably look like small mushrooms with tiny brown/red heads (they're B+), and I still see nothing. So I've been searching posts, re-reading different guides, etc. trying to find as much info on pinning as I can and I've noticed something. In nearly all the posts and pics people put on here regarding pinning cakes, they have already birthed the fully colonized cakes and the cakes begin to pin while in the terrarium, as opposed to letting the cakes begin to pin while still in the jar. Am I missing something here? Is it better to birth the cake first before the first pins appear?
Sorry if this is a really stupid question, I wouldn't be asking it if I could find the answer through unexhaustive research. Any info anyone can give me regarding it would be greatly appreciated, as I'm so psyched I've made it this far on my first attempt, It'd be a shame for it to fall apart like a Chinese motorcycle. Thanks.

Birth them fist now. The light as well as the fresh air and lower CO2 will start the pinning. You might want to dunk a couple of them and see what happens. IMHOE JJJJJJ

Definitely dunk your cakes. Throw them in ziplock bags filled with distilled water and a splash of h2o2 and stick them in your refrigerator for about 12hrs. Then birth them to fruiting conditions and they will pin.
