While I was in Amsterdam my friend had some mushrooms called Philosophers' Stones. What are they actually called? What are they? Where can they be found?

Philosophers stones are the small nuggets of sclerotia taken from either the old dried up mycelium of Psilocybe tampenensis and /or Psilocybe mexicana.
one gram is a dose equal to about 1-2 dried grams of P. cubensis ,mushrooms.
You can only obtain it by cultivating the two above noted shrooms.
It was the late Dr. Steven Hayden Pollock who made the slcerotia popular among members of the drug subculture in America. HE called it the "Cosmic Camote" and/or "Philosophers Stone."

Hey MJ or anybody else who might know...
I found these in the wild. Are all mushrooms capable of doing this or did I just find something that could be of some worth ! I have never heard of these things before but now I'm extremely interested. Here's the pic...

Looks tome like you maybe found some Lycoperdon's (puffballs) no they do not produce sclerotia.
P. cubensis, P. mexicana, P. tampanensis and Conocybe cyanopus are good producers of sclerotia.
Good luck.
mj
And that is produced indoors in vitro.

I had Philosopher's Stones in Amsterdam recently as well. They make you more introspective and quiet than other shrooms. Good for meditation and stuff.

Gulf coast can produce sclerotia ? Is it hard or real spongy? How do you get them to do this?
