Easy question: sterilizing jars "on levels"
    #6356943 - 12/11/06 07:25 AM (17 years, 3 months ago)

Hello Community I had a hint tonight and don't know really
if it could be working or not. The idea is to put inside the PC or the normal pot (substrate would be always PF-Tek with aluminium foil on top) more
"levels" of jars, as building a pyramid of them. The picture shows how it should be.

Also I thought that between each level jar I could put some towels, so the glass would not brake for the high temperature.

Anyone ever made something similar? Looks like a good tek for wasting less gas in the kitchen (LOL  ) and less time to sterilize the whole thing
Some good news? Thanx!

no need to stack them in a pyramid in a PC, just stack them and fill the thing up.... as long as there is water in the PC and you don't let it run so long that it evaporates (a couple hours, normally) they will all be sterilized. the jars do not all need to touch the water, so stacking works fine and i can't see how stacking in a pyramid would benefit you (only wastes PC space). as for stacking them in a normal pot to steriilize, i don't think it'll work, as even the ones touching the water, cannot be guarenteed sterile (which is why we use pressure cookers in the first place)

edit: i really need to start using the reply feature....

You can stack jars all the way to the top. There is no need for them to be touching the water, whether it's a PC or regular boiling kettle. That's how we've been doing it for years.

Don't forget to use a false bottom or a few dish rags to keep the jars from touching the bottom.
