in ggmm stamets says something about most wood lovers being desendants of this guy. Well something like that.
This looks more like the cyclone that the guy at the fair had

what a beast of a thread.

I wish I could add something, but I tend to agree with auweia.

He is representing the bay area very well.

That is a most awwesome photo Tahoe.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I hven't seen that before, but have seen cespitose cyans and Azures and cyabofibrilosa like that but bowhere the same shaped caps. only the colors and put white blue streaking stem.

The the photo Tahoe posted above is Psilocybe subaeruginosa, as is the one below.

I found a similar mushroom in Berkeley last year, I thought it was P. azurescens but Workman recently examined it but says it's not. This is the original specimen.

And some cultivated...

Ok, so here's a composite image of this species presented by Workman of Sporeworks. I sent him some samples a while back and have been anxiously awaiting his reply. This is very interesting... he also thinks this species could be Psilocybe subaeruginascens. So now that's two ID's for subaeruginascens in the Bay area, coming from two very respected mycologists, Peter Werner and Workman.

Sample:
Location: Berkeley, CA
Collection Date: 12/06
Microscopy: Dried sample rehydrated and mounted with 2.5% KOH.
Collector: Waylitjim
Comments: Annulated Psilocybe similar to P. subaeruginascens

It is possible, though, unlikely.

More probable is that Ps. subaeruginascens is the closest known species to match the unknown Bay Area Psilocybes microscopically.

I wonder if the cyclone effect is consistent with the Bay Area Psilocybe shown in Paul Stamets book, or if it is it appears sporadically... I suspect it is incidental, but I am not sure.

I've put various fibs/friscosas on agar, none of them demonstrated the spiraling effect. These were done multispore, I suspect paul found a substrain thru isolation which he called the cyclone psilocybe.

Yeah, that was my guess...

Here is a more recent pic, the mycelium was used to a syringe the other day and it has repaired itself. As for an isolation that produces spiraling, this sampl should produce the same effect. ITs as isolated as it can get. Its a clone! 1 male/1 female. The white spots forming away from the center are from chucnk of the mycelium floating away in the vliquid that resulted from the syringe

I originally thought I found annulated azurescens, but since they're not azures, they very well may be a new species. Although it's always possible subaeruginascens spores traveled to CA, we have many visitors from overseas.

post more pics of the top one. With pics of the top of the cap. This looks like the one james was calling the clyclone/friscosas and the rest of the wet ones are the ones we have been calling friscosas

You found this spot?....got any outdoor photos? btw, those look alot like the ones I left out there last year for Peter to come identify. He went out there the next day and they were gone, all of them, every single last pin, which is why I had to move it. So all I could do was give him a dried sample, and is one reason why it's taking so long to ID

unfortunately i ate them all yesterday, so i only have these last 2 pics. part of me wants to say that the four were just variants of the same species, but macroscopically, the fib seems to have a more striate cap margin, could be wrong

yeah, we talked about it last year. Near the guards shack, by the real estate sign. I went out there about a week later. Peter must not have found it or didn't have the right area.
Burton, the people at the Fair believed that the 2 that James had the different looking cyclone and what we are calling friscosas are the same species just variations. Ps fib var san francisco
