Anyone listen to Coast to Coast AM?
    #6344649 - 12/07/06 01:42 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

I tried searching, but, didn't find any relevant topics.

I used to love this program, and would listen to it every night during work, but, haven't been able to find a station here in Fresno.

Anyone else like it? I take everything with a grain of salt, however its pretty fun to listen to. Just to know there are other people who really think about some strange stuff and the possibility of it actually happening.

Anyone find this program entertaining/factual/interesting?

I used to listen to it frequently, and still listen from time to time.

I'd imagine they have to have an affiliate near Fresno, but I have no idea how you'd find it.

Entertaining and interesting? I think so.
Factual? Sometimes.

I used to listen to the show every night when Art Bell hosted, but then George Noory took over and took the show's quality downhill from there..

Try KMJ580!

I used to listen to this show too, though not recently. But like you said, it's lots of fun to hear all the crazy stuff that people believe. Art Bell got some pretty intelligent and articulate guests who make extraordinary claims, and the show treats the subject matter seriously. I dunno what it is about that combination, but it definitely works for me.

Edit: Damn, Art Bell doesn't host anymore?

Duh, I am on the website and didn't even think to check the affiliates page. hah.

Yeah, George Noory is the host now. I think saturdays they air Art Bell shows, new or old, Im not too sure.

I didn't listen to this until the last 3 years, so I never heard Art Bell shows so, I can't judge the difference. All I know is George does ask some pretty "obvious" questions that cause redundancy in the topic once in a while, and sort of piss me off.

Yea, its definetly interesting and entertaining, but, factual is only once in a while. I like when he interviews guys from NASA and talks about the future of space exploration and such.

art bell's wife died suddenly. he tried to kill himself. he then met some Filipino girl online and married her a month later and then impregnated her. he now does the show on saturdays and sundays direct from his Filipino love nest.

george noory is better anyways.

I pretty much stopped listening frequently right after Art went into quasi-retirement.

I still tune in on weekends from time to time, since Art still hosts weekend shows... but sadly I think Coast to Coast has jumped the shark.

from wiki...
>In 1998, Bell was named as recipient of the less-than-prestigious Snuffed Candle Award. The Council for Media Integrity cited Bell "for encouraging credulity, presenting pseudoscience as genuine, and contributing to the public's lack of understanding of the methods of scientific inquiry."

lol

I do listen occasionally (when on the road late), but I have to agree with the above quote, he hurts more than he helps.

Thats hypocritical to say that someone is wrong just for questioning things.

Thats what the church did to early scientists!!! "NO your WRONG, the bible explains everything.."

I dont think he ever stated what his show talks about as being fact either.

I think you have to have a great imagination to be good at science. Think of Newton and how he created calculus just to explain physics. His mind must have been able to imagine some amazing things.

I dont think hes wrong for questioning.

I think he "presenting pseudoscience as genuine, and contributing to the public's lack of understanding of the methods of scientific inquiry." which hurts more than it helps, thats all.

Its like that movie "What the bleep do we know?". Its not a poor documentary because it questions. Its a poor documentary because it presents pseudoscience as genuine, and contributes to the public's lack of understanding of the methods of scientific inquiry.

I think the public should be better informed on the scientific method thats all. Art Bell does not use the scientific method, but listeners (for whatever reason) think he does.

I've listened for short periods a few tmes. Even if it's moon batty as hel it's a good listen.

Couple weeks ago I was listening to this one lady say that she has been in contact with the devil and when she goes to hell she will be one of Satans friends and that her child would be the anti-christ, also the child would be named Damien.

She sounded like a very normal person too. good stuff sometimes

richard c. hogland was on last night talking about water and life on mars and structures photographed on the moon.

fun show, i like that the hosts will usually let callers say whatever they need to say. lots of total bs guests but there's always a few needles in the haystack.

He interviews Hogland a lot, it seems.

His name is burned into my mind from the numerous mentionings of it on the show.

Gotta say that Noory pisses me off too.
He's over-gullible and doesn't incite intelligent discussion.

Art, I find, does a better job at this but....
Let's just say that the ideal C2C host hasn't shown up yet.

Anybody catch that show a couple weeks ago when he talked to a prof who claims to have found a promising principle for time travel? THAT was a fascinating show.

I tend to think that Noory is a bit less skeptical than Art is. That's a hell of a statement given the nature of the show... but Noory tends to indulge the crazies more than Art did.

I absolutely loved it when one someone called in and was so bloody insane that Art would just respond with blatant sarcasm. Noory doesn't do that, or at least not in the amusing way that Art did... he seems more willing to indulge the crazy folks.
