Words
    #6342601 - 12/07/06 12:12 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

What do words really do for us? They don't exist outside of our minds. Certainly, placing a word on something does nothing to actually define it. For each thing we label just is what it is, not what we label or judge it as. I think words trick us into thinking we know what everything is. A bunch of words or concepts. We can come up with words for everything. We live in a world of words. We think in nothing but words. Words. Word is a strange sounding word. But strange is just a word to judge how word sounds. What makes something strange? Only my judgment about it. Word just sounds how it does.

What are all these words all about? Will we always need them? I don't think so. I don't think it's necessary to think in words. Maybe life can be a constant meditation? What do you think? Can you answer me without words? Where does a question end and an answer begin?

How can we ever come to any conclusion about everything if we just use words! They are a pitiful creation. They keep us from seeing the true nature of everything. This is that! That is this! Things change over 'time', which is an illusion. But the words stay the same. Wood becomes ash. How could the wood become something that it already wasn't? Isn't everything just energy?

More words.

From you.

Can you post to me without them?

Waiting.

the word is a technology, an invention if you will.

then there is language.

language is simply the reason why we invented the word. :mushroom2:

basically semantics are essential for communication and propagation.

take pheromones for instance, in a sense they are "words" for a chemical language. amongst the majority of biological lifeforms including the human being, pheromones are the prime medium for communication, however subtle they may seem to us.

plus we are not only biological but linguistic beings as well, thinking monkeys :lol:, so we can create meaning faster, and in by far more complex fashions.

words, like any other technology, surely have the potential to be abused. words can be overused to obscure meaning, words can manipulate and control,

words can also quite often be taken literally, especially during emotional communication.

sometimes it is nice to let it all go though, :thumbup:

to just sit back and toss the keyboard of the mind, to look around and just see, and to simply accept that there are no boundaries and lines, no space bars and syntax.

until you have something on your mind that you just HAVE to share with somebody. :grin:

and in that, words can be really helpful. :wink:

:heart:

Poster, without words, without language, without communication everything would be much more difficult for us. Its difficult for us to understand each other with all these "words" now, imagine without them. Good Post.

What do turn signals really do for us? Brake lights? Communication is so overrated.  :tongue2:

words are triggers like the keys on a piano

under each word-key, in each person's mind, is a choir singing associated ideas and stories.

when you string words together you are writing a score that turns to many voices in each reader's mind.

In fact, most of what is communicated when we speak is not contained within the words we choose to utter. The words are just the tip of the iceberg, perched atop our non-verbal messages. They are more obvious, and may even be seen as the entireity of the communication, but they are not.

If I say "I love you" through clenched teeth, while glaring at you and crossing my arms over my chest, does it communicate the same message as "I love you" uttered in an impassioned whisper, while gazing deep into your eyes?

The words are mere clues to help us search for the meaning being transmitted.

Words represent meanings, but your issue maybe deeper in thinking that maybe the mind is limited in how we think. Is words the only representation of meaning, and so they dictate our ability to think, No, math, is also a way in we convey meaning, and dictate how we think. Some African tribes use clicking and noises to communicate and convey meaning, not really words. People who do public speaking also try to convey there messages with hand gestures and expressions along with their words to convey or emphasize their meaning their trying to get across.

But I do have to agree people get carried away with talking, they love to talk to the detriment of everyone else.

A black, E white, I red, U green, O blue: vowels,
I shall tell, one day, of your mysterious origins:
A, black velvety jacket of brilliant flies
which buzz around cruel smells,

Gulfs of shadow; E, whiteness of vapours and of tents,
lances of proud glaciers, white kings, shivers of cow-parsley;
I, purples, spat blood, smile of beautiful lips
in anger or in the raptures of penitence;

U, waves, divine shudderings of viridian seas,
the peace of pastures dotted with animals, the peace of the furrows
which alchemy prints on broad studious foreheads;

O, sublime Trumpet full of strange piercing sounds,
silences crossed by [Worlds and by Angels]:
–O the Omega! the violet ray of [His] Eyes!

--------------------
What I do not know now, I will know when the time is right...

This very moment is a shining expansion of the breathing universe,

This exploding sensation of complete tranquility,

The one, the all, the sweet bliss of tasting God.

rgv, have you ever seen amorphous spinning connotation-orbs while on salvia? the last few times I used the herb, I found that just after the peak of the experience I could start saying words and I would get intense CEVs that seemed to grow and unfold as I chanted the word -- I realized that they were visual displays of all the emotions and images I had built up around the word being chanted over the course of my life. my name elicited the most powerful hallucination. really breathtaking

I have been thinking about what words really are, I think words are some of our consciousness. Your brain does not speak in English, your brain just transfers its thoughts into English.

Hehe, but I made some loop there. Originally my friend wasn't able to articulate one understandable human word at all. The 'sounds' he made sounded verrry strange :laugh:
Your very very good cup and water analogy did let me associate it with Bashar (I still love this 'phenomena') :thumbup:
