OK I thought I would help people out and if someone has any other ideas please post :-). ok for a separatory funnel you can take a 2 litre soda bottle and cut the bottom off and screw on a sports water bottle cap. like one of those kiddie cups. for a stand use a roll of duct tape on one of those metal plant stands. This funnel is bigger than my $160 1000 ml labware. I will post a pic later. I didnt like the idea of a wire strainer filter for when you are dealing with acids so I took one of those minute rice bags and put it in a funnel for the rough straining jobs, that way no acid/metal reaction will happen. I use a normal coffee filter after that as a second straining. I use a wooden spoon for stirring ect... other things to have are big pyrex cups, mason jars, gallon wine jugs. anyone else got any tips??

oh yeah I will also post pics of my evaporation setup later. basically it is a coffee maker cut in half so only the burner works and I have a bathroom fartfan right next to the hotplate and hooked up to a piece of aluminum ducting that blows the vapors out the window. dont want no houses blowing up lol

hehe yeah they are $10 at Home Depot. also about 5 years ago I made an Acetone evaporator for Salvinorin. I had it sealed to block out light. To make it I cut out 2 3" holes in a 5 gallon bucket lid and insrted 2 8" lenths of pvc and taped them with duct tape. I put my coffee warmer in the bucket and made a hole for the power cord and sealed that with tape. on 1 of the pvc pipes in the lid I hooked the fart fan with a piece of ducting and made it so the fan blows into the bucket. The other pvc pipe in the lid was connected to another piece of ducting that ran outside to exaust vapors. This way no vapors travelled through the fan and exploded from the brushes in the fan motor making sparks.

oh yeah and if you look at my glass sep funnel I dropped the stopcock into the sink and the handle broke off. It still works but the homemade one is way more durable.
