Hi all folks
I'm looking for a University that has got a course in growing mushrooms (non active and active).
I want to study now before the years pass.
I hope you can help me.
Thank you all, Fabio
ps. the same thread is in Mushroom cultivation i hope the moderators will not cancel this or the either (but you can cancel the one in OTF - thank you )

Have you been to university before? Universities aren't really the kind of place that would offer a course on how to grow mushrooms.
You would be looking more at a college or technical institute, or perhaps some kind of agriculture institute.
But in reality you can learn to grow mushrooms from reading books and checking out the internet, there really is no need to spend thousands of dollars and a few years getting a piece of paper to say you can do it.
What you would do at university would be to study mycology. At most universities this would involve doing an undergrad degree (3-4 years) in botany with a couple of papers on mycology, followed by post grad work where you get to focus more on what you want. Provided that there is a prof. at that university that is doing something that you want to do too.
From there you could go into researching the more scientific stuff about edible mushrooms, such as ideal substrate compositions, research on mychorhizal mushrooms, etc.

My thoughts are with Zee_werp. If you really wanted to learn to grow a variety of mushrooms you could consider looking for a grower and try to start working there. You might be shoveling compost for a while but if you show the interest and energy to learn a good grower might let you in on more details.
As for classes on growing non active and active mushrooms you might be even more out of luck, I'm guessing several countries besides the US have made magic mushrooms illegal. However, it seems once you've learned how to grow on a particular substrate you're halfway there (wood-lovers, poo-lovers, etc.)
I would get GGMM and TMC and read them through. I still make a habit of cracking them open occasionally and it's amazing how much more you will pick up once you start getting experience.

yeah man! i go to school at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, and i just found out that a big mushroom growing/distributing company that makes super bomb organic mushrooms of all sorts is based in olympia. I'm going to try to get an internship with them and see about getting school credit for learning how to grow mushrooms from someone who really knows what they are doing.
