How to realize your potential

Internal strength meant a sense of equanimity, almost of indifference, a feeling of being at ease, but, above all, it meant a natural and profound bent for examination, for understanding,. The new seers called all these traits of character sobriety.
The conviction that the new seers have is that a life of impeccability by itself leads unavoidably to a sense of sobriety, and this in turn leads to the movement of the assemblage point.
The new seers believe that the assemblage point can be moved from within. They went one step further and maintained that impeccable men need no one to guide them, that by themselves, through saving their energy, they can do everything that seers do. All they need is a minimal chance, just to be cognizant of the possibilities that seers have unraveled.
All that is required is impeccability, energy, and that begins with a single act that has to be deliberate, precise, and sustained. If that act is repeated long enough, one acquires a sense of unbending intent, which can be applied to anything else. If that is accomplished the road is clear. One thing will lead to another until the warrior realizes his full potential.
I believe this is the latest and greatest evolution of the "spirit" in this age. This is why I refuse to worship at the feet of the Guru or any Religion. I will learn from whomever I choose but that's where it ends. I make or break my own life.
I also believe the biggest hinderance to impeccability (doing your best)for the aspiring warrior is self-importance and indulging. This is the big energy leak that inhibits progress IMO.

There is no doubt of that, but sadly most people would hate to give up either.

A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

thanks Ice, that post meant a lot to me.
throughout the last year of my life I have come to realization and path that i want to pursue. which is art/music. there is no other path for me and i am (even as we speak) devoting my every bit of energy and thought to it. i would rather look back 20 years from now knowing i gave it a shot, because i know the experience and path that i am choosing will make my life happier and more mature than i could ever hope for (because hey, where does hoping get you right? )
great post

it's so much easier for me to talk about self importance and indulgence than to understand what it really means to rid myself of them... Ice, I know you know
indulgence is tough for me because you can indulge in everything, even in refusing to indulge... really not indulging means actively keeping your mind from wandering on paths without heart, paths that lead you astray. as far as I can tell my mind is pretty much constantly trying to say "come look at this! look over here! this is what you should think about! this how you're programmed to think about this experience, these are the problems you should dwell on -- THIS IS YOU, OVER HERE". truly not indulging, for me, doesn't mean fasting, sitting silently in meditation for 10 hours a day, turning your nose up at chocolate, filet mignon, and beautiful women... it means constant awareness of mental machinations and clear intent to transcend the mundane process of programmed thought.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Good post. I agree that this is a difficult task. For me the process of engaging in taking responsibility for myself has been life long. Yet there may be a time when enough energy is stored to begin to make some progress. The ticket for me is learning about what is leaking my energy and tackling it one little step at a time. It's fucking hard work.
