I Live in Massachusettes and im new to shroom hunting but ive been tring to find some around yet unsuccessful...i know it might be too early in the season though. We've also had a lot of rain lately, but i dont know what effect rain has on the growth, if anyone could help me out it would be great

Trees and snow. That is all you are going to find. Anywhere north of Tennessee in the eastcoast is pretty much hopeless. Grow shrooms if you want them.

I've walked over 100 miles (No Exaggeration) and found everything that is growing out here, every tree, every bush, every lawn to only find dead blackened mushrooms. A few weeks ago I thought I was getting close but that's about all I was. I have walked from Massachusetts to Rhode Island and even every town bordering me. Found Gymnopulis, dead... Started taking some patches of Mycelium and have some growth but God only knows what will pop up lol. I need a direct link to a reputable supplier.

They are out there: https://mushroomobserver.org/observer/advanced_search?q=bYMy
I can't tell you if the limited observations reflect local rarity or a lack of people looking concertedly.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

I guess this is the first I'd consider likely.

Sorry guys. Thats what I get for reading the bottom first and the top last. 16 years later... ??? Whats he mean? Only read the bottom post time at 12 hours old. OP you gonna chime in? Lol. I was home visiting family before starting sophomore year in college. I can assure you, there was plenty of mushrooms in Mass at that time. (overpriced though)

Good pics. I have searched high and low but maybe not high enough... 😁 I think I just dont go back to the same spots frequent enough, I'll skip a day or two when I find nothing where I believe I should. Then I go back and I find unidentifiable dead black mushrooms. Found dead Gymnopulis. Dead Amanitas a month ago that never came back up. I've searched everywhere but the perimeters of the Police Station lol. Though your post gives me hope! I find all kinds of psilocybe cyanescens looking ones that just must be galerinas. But no luck yet. This weather just freezes and kills all that break ground.

Southern NH 5 miles north of MA border maybe 3-4 miles from coast. These were in a fallen maple. Growing from the debris decaying wood ans plant matter. I wish I took better shots, it was about a volleyball sized hole and they were growing in the hole itself. The stems turned green fast and then started to faid they weren't edible but the hunt is challenge slim pickings up here. Next year you should try to frequent your more promising spots take notes on weather and temps. That will up the chances od a gift that keeps on giving, and worth every mile hiked. Be safe my friend

Hey well good luck! I dont let the cold deter me. If they are there I will find them, probably dead. Ive been grabbing some Mycelium patches when I find something I am quite certain of but too dead to be sure. Hopefully something will start popping up soon from my grab bags lol. Thanks for the inspiration!
