wow.
nice visual documentation of your hunts
living in the PNW and not being familiar with your guys' 'friscosa' specimens, i honestly have a hard time differentiating them from cyans in some of those photos (the very first pic in the top left certainly looks like p. cyanescens though).
and what do the friscosa's prefer to grow from? those appear to be cedar chips?
peace.

the first 5 are cyans, the next 13 are friscosas...btw, this is the longest stem I've seen one these too, but I'm sure that's because it's deep in a bush where there's no air circulation..they like the same areas as cyans do, basically..the first 5, cyans, and the next 13 are nearly the same area in an office park..one end had cyans, and another section had friscosas

(posted this already while the server was running on backup)
Hey everyone. Let me introduce myself and apologize ahead of time for my newbie-ness. I live in South Bay, and am wondering if there are any nearby shroom-hunting sites. I have never gone mushroom hunting before, nor have I tried mushrooms for that matter (I want to very much, but have never had the opportunity). My cat is currently working on an indoor grow of cubes that I posted about in this thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post6255412, but because I haven't gotten any organic brown rice flour for the substrate yet due to the fact that I don't drive (I'm over sixteen, I've just been lazy thus far) and don't live within walking distance to any health food stores, I'm kind of stuck until one of my friends picks some up for me.
So, any advice on how to identify species native to the Silicon Valley region (if there are any) would be much appreciated. I also visit Morgan Hill very frequently, specifically up near Henry Coe State Park, and am wondering if anyone knows of shrooms that grow up there (though it's been dry as of late). Finally, I understand that mushroom hunting can be very dangerous especially for the beginner and with that in mind if I end up finding anything I'm going to be sure to post pictures here for verification before I even think about consuming them.

Hmm, I might go to the fair... sounds interesting, and I'd like to meet some of you guys in person so you can pass on some of your wisdom to a grateful noob like myself.

Thanks, too bad it didn't come out clear. It's slightly blurry. The stem reminds me of twisted taffy, and I love the blue swirl.

Oh yeah, I recycle mycelium when I can...sometimes, you gotta understand, I don't have much choice..Don't have more than a few seconds in some places, cause it's right next to somebodys office window, things like that..These things just choose the most diabolical places sometimes to pop up.
One place, you could spend more time if you dress up as a window washer....carry a squeegee....hehe

Egcellent...I'm gonna have to look up the blek thread again and reacquaint myself with this technique. I was thinking of taking some myc-laden chips and adding them to pasteurized hardwood chips and dust. Any thoughts?

All my cardboards eventually make it back into the wild..I don't have the space to even do a small bucket, and no place I can put it outdoors at my home, no backyard..No, they stay in cardboard until ready, then they go back outside and get buried around the bay

If anybody is interested, I'll be leading a collecting foray for the Fair tomorrow (Friday) morning at Pt Reyes, meeting at the Bear Valley Visitor's Center parking lot at 9AM.
No, I'm not expecting and psychoactives other than maybe Amanita muscaria – this is a woodland foray after all. Still, every year I go there, I never fail to turn up all sorts of cool and interesting mushrooms.

Oh, and I finally got a chance to look at Auweia's Richmond specimens (from last year) under the microscope – NOT Ps. azurescens! Nor anything else in the Ps. cyanescens group. It looks like either Ps. subaeruginascens (though not the same as the one that came out of GG Park a few years back) or Ps. stuntzii, though strangely lacking a ring in any of the photos Auweia posted.
