My pressure cooker fits 5 1pt jars perfectly.I don't mess with the qts. Those are just for larger projects basically. Hell I used pt. jars for my pf tek. I likem just fine. So far on a pt jar 3/4 filled w/ wbs, after a LC injection of 7cc's my jars were fully colonized after 6 days. If ya gotem, usem man

i like the bigger jars myself , if it takes a few extra days to colonize and i get double, triple the amount of spawn then i am all for it.

i also have a big PC and i throw in 14 quart jars and i am done in 1 hour.

if i am using it to pasteurize i get the water up to temp cap the PC and i am done.
i would go nuts if i had to use up a whole afternoon to PC jars.

i think the answer to your question is that others and i are willing to pay the extra money to save loads of time.

say you have this Hobie for 5 years, that is alot of time you are saving buy spending 140 dollars. most will have this Hobie a lot longer.

I hate pints,I use quart jars and I still sometimes have to run the PC,3-4 times if I'm making allot of jars and my AA holds 10 of them at a time

I don't really get the focus on quart jars instead of pints for use as spawn. Don't pints colonize faster?

No, pints don't colonize faster. You use slightly more inoculant with a quart jar, so colonization time is the same. My quart jars of rye berries colonize in a week to ten days with 2 to 4 ml of inoculant, and that's at room temperature.

If you're only growing a very small amount, a small PC is great. Lots of us are experimenting with various species and teks, and therefore go through a lot more spawn, which makes a larger pressure cooker a very good investment.

Once you have your wbs/grain spawn prep down pat.
(soak only, soak/simmer, hot-tub naked, or whatever works for you)

And, jar inoculation & filtering.

Pints, quarts & 1/2 gallons & bags ALL colonize at about the same rate.

Large PC's have a DISTINCT time saving advantage.
1 PC run, verses multiple runs, saves TIME.

Another advantage with the larger jars is time spent innoculating. If you have 40 half pint jars, It's going to take a lot longer to shoot those suckers up compared to 10 QTs.

Also, you don't need as many total jars, so there's less clutter in your work and storage spaces.. Big plus for the cramped growers ....
