I put the grow light too high above the plants now they have grown to tall and skinny and fallen over what Can I do? should I put support besides them and put the light closer?

Just rly basic for the fun of growing them I have no hope that they will fully mature and produce me smokable pot but iam trying for the learning value of it, curently the plants are about 2-4 inches tall two sets of small leaves and there all in one large pot, when the plants start to grow to large or my parents find out iam going to move the plants over to my friends place she can grow them legally because she has aids.

They're Tiny! I don't think they should have any problems holding themselves up at that size though. From the ones I've seen they're usually strong, not limp. Perhaps they're dehydrated, or they've had too much water? Not the right soil? etc?

for plants that have stretched the best solution is to stake them up and get a fan on them to strengthen the stem. Move your light closer to the plants, if you're using a fluoro the tops can pretty much touch the light.

This may sound crazy. But break the lazy bastards necks. Grab with two fingers and twist till you feel a pop. Tie them up or bend them over. Zig zag them to what ever shape works. the break scars and strengthens the stem. You can snap them, then move into what ever shape works. Get a flat canopy, then lower the light to a foot or two away, depending on how strong your light is.

not to sound like an asshole but, you better start over and find out what the fuck you're doing
putting them on a 12/12 cycle is probably the reason they are stretching, not that i know what lights you're using or how close they are (i bet that's not really good either)
read up some basic grow guide so you at the least have some faint idea what it takes to grow pot. yes i know you're doing this for the educational value but there's really no point if you're going to start with a dead end!
if you're looking to get some reasonable reward for any effort you put into these plants you better start over and make sure you know what you're looking at! and besides, it ain't cool to grow illegal drugs at your parents house without their consent, especially when you KNOW they don't approve!
oh, and to answer your original question... plants should have good air circulation which also moves them, that movement makes little cells brake and the plant builds more cells where it's needed making the stalk stronger. a fan won't help much if the poor little sprouts are deprived of light, they will streatch so they might find light (works kinda good in nature but sadly that's not the case) enough light is at least a couple of flourecent lights going for 18/6 (where 18 is the time the lights are on) preferably 24 hours. and also you don't want to water them all the time. water well and let the soil somewhat dry out before you water again...
do yr self a favor and read a guide (there are TONS of them out there) good luck and have fun!

yah, if you have only seedlings at least try to keep them in an 18/6 environment. That's probably the most amount of darkness they'd be able to handle without freaking out. It's pretty easy to block the light from a closet lit with a fluro.
Hard to tell you how much water with all the plants in one big pot, id say about 1/2 a cup would do it, but you want the water to penetrate the soil underneath the tap root. This way the root system stretches downward in search of the water and you dont end up with a shallow root system.

I think the fan thing is an urban legend. I have grown side by side comparisons and the ones without the fan grew strong stems just as well. however it does supply carbon dioxide and prevents mold growing on the soil.

water till a little comes out the bottom of the container.
roots consume all dirt thats moist.
The bigger the roots the bigger the plant.

Its easy to observe and u can research it to believe its true.
damaged cell repairs itself and comes back stronger.
same thing happens when u work out. u lift heavy stuff, muscles break down. Body repairs those cells but they come back stronger to try to lift the heavier weight.
a good way to strengthen stems is to geive them alot of substrate.
u grow a huge root mass and the stem must get huge to supply the plant with water/nutrients
thats why when u plant a plant outside the stalks are as big around as my leg.
could just be prime iowa soil =)

true I have pinched stems before and the pinched part turned really hard and strong and fat. but light wind wont damage stems enough. I didnt do the side by side purposely, I just had 2 growrooms and only 1 fan at the time and happened to notice the stems on the ones without the fan were just as strong.
