I need hardcore tattoo advice

I have long fantasized about getting the Russian words for "theist" and "nihilist" tattooed on my forearms. I am wary of taking the plunge however.
Has anybody ever gotten a tattoo that they regretted? Are tattoos easy to get rid of if you don't like them? Do they fade and start to look shitty after ten years or so? Will they look like crap when I'm 50? Have tattoos ever interfered with your life (fucked up job prospects, etc..). Does my tattoo idea sound stupid?

i would venture to say that homeless guy that got "BUM FIGHTS" tattooed on his forehead regrets it. look at ozzy osborne, you can see if he looks stupid now. as far as the forearms, how far down (towards the wrist) were you planning on going? hopefully nothing that couldnt be covered by a longsleeve shirt.

I have some ink that I am not into as I was I when I conceived of and implemented the idea, but I would never get them removed. They are apart of my life, a reminder of my past days. Are they easy to get rid of? No - painful, slow, and expensive. Ink will only look shitty if you do not take of it, meaning poor aftercare and sun exposure. Read up on tattoo aftercare and put sunblock on your tattoos if you plan on being in the sun enough to burn/tan. Grandpa's tattoos were made with inferior ink as compared to the ink of today, but you still have to take care of them (hardly a chore, though). Touch-ups every few years helps keep the tattoo fresh.
As for the content of your tattoos, get them if you really want them. And expect everyone who sees them to ask what all those Russian words mean...for the rest of your life. Those of you who have kanji know what I am talking about.

I somewhat regret that the artist didn't do a good enough job on my first tattoo(though most people seem to like it), but it's not a big deal. I have plans to have it touched up and expanded upon. I think the bigger problem with tattoos is their addictiveness. I have three now, and have my next three all planned out already.

Just think ahead of time, do you want this on your body for the rest of your life, unless expensively removed. But I have never gotten a tattoo yet, mainly because I always spent extra money on other items, instead of body art. I am not against tattoos, I think they are just a form of self expression and that is cool by me, I am surprized I never gotten one yet.

I never thought the idea of words on my body as cool looking, if I got a tattoo, it would be killer artwork, that is for damn sure!

Ya, I've never been big on words as tattoos, but if it works for someone, I say go for it.

Ive got ink im not so fond of.
Keep in mind, everyone will ask every possible question and not respect your decision to keep them in the dark. Also, keep in mind that if you share your secret, and the person asking disagree's with your motive/understanding/intentions you will have an ego battle, and build a wall.
Tattoo's now a days are pretty long lasting and bright. Hard to remove..
I plan on incorporating mine into a larger piece, and 2nd the motion that they are apart of my past and a marker of growth.
Honestly, id rather have clean arms.. :S
(just not everyone understands, and its impossible to judge how a tattoo will effect your life before you live with it. Its a big decision.)

if you have to ask that, then you probably dont want to get that tattoo.
it should be something that you're 100% sure of and confident in

Tats are pretty much forever. You can get them removed, but as mentioned, it's painful and expensive.

a friend got a tattoo and is not happy with it. the colors are not within the lines in all the places and it is tilted sideways a little bit. maybe the artist was drunk. i'm not sure if the guy was the cheapest in town, but i wouldn't skimp on tatoos that last a long time, but also the most expensive is not necessarily the best either. make sure you ask around and ask people who have brought in their own designs so you can see how the artist does with designs he's never seen before.
i was there when my friend got his tattoo, and the guy seemed like an idiot. he was positioning the tattoo (in case u dont know, ur guy might make a stencil to make an outline that can be erased) and was like "how does that look" but my friend couldn't tell, he was looking from the weirdest angle of all of us, it was the artists job to see that it was obviously crooked. the design was pretty oblong (the Tool eye) to give the guy some credit, but still. if you want my advice, do it like the aboriginees or whatever do. get a needle and the right kind of ink and get someone high on mushrooms to do it, it would be awesome even if they mess up

My tattooist also made my first tattoo very unenjoyable and then fucked it up majorly ontop of that. (a molecule.)
It makes me very bitter, and i cant stress enough to be totally comfortable and friendly with your tattoo artist and make sure he understands the meaning of your tattoo and you can share a couple hours inking .. as friends, with good music and good conversation.
___
My second tattoo, is an excellent tattoo (with a stupid topic) - the artist, Jay (at adrenaline, in vancouver) did a wonderful job, and cared alot about the drawing he designed, and catered to my every need - jamming over music, drug history, philosophical insights, and gave me a wicked deal on top. Too bad i wasnt in the right place in my life to decide to get a tattoo..

Yes, pay the $55 an hour or whatever at "the good shop" uptown. You know, the one with the bright lighting and No Smoking sign on the door. Like Vvellum said, I may have a few that aren't perfect, but they remind me of my past and the phases I've gone through. They're a bit harder to appreciate when on your forearm in plain sight, however.
I recently bought a very nice setup and have been covering my thighs and am running out of room. I've thought about putting something on my arm (as it's the next easiest place for me to draw on myself), but I really don't know if I can commit.

Make sure you really, really, really, really, want that art on your skin for the rest of your life.
And find the best tattoo artist you possibly can.
That's the best advice I think I can give.
