I missed my chance to post this because of Dell.
Holidays are losers in the U.S. Commercial crap to get you stressed and out a bundle of cash.
I think we were supposed to be thankful for all we have and remember how the Indians helped us out with food when we were starving. (of course after we first told them to fuck off with their savage offerings of peace.) Of course when we became well fed we set about killing off our benefactors. How cute.
So if we are going to have a happy Thanksgiving it would be only right and fair to have a happy Genocide day. Don't cha think?

so we can remember our cultural mis-doings and be confronted by the shadows of our origins? are you nuts?
it sure would be fair though, no doubt.

One would think that taking the time to find a gift to bestow upon another human being isn't necessarily a terrible thing, and, quite possibly, is a reflection of the act of which you referred to. I think that the idea of Thanksgiving naturally leads to the idea of Christmas. Stress is something that one inflicts upon oneself, and how one decides to spend their money is their own concern.

I don't really do holidays anymore but unfortunately for a couple more months I have to deal with customers and their frantic egomanicial holiday preparations.

I go into a daze when I walk into Wal*Mart. I wander the aisles like a zombie, moaning "stuff, must buy stuff."

Which possibilities are these of which you speak? Each store is full of opportunity for the seizing.

I know, I saw the post he made about hypnosis. I think that those faces all over the store put people into a hypnotic state.
(I am not saying this because I am unwilling to take full responsibility for the ridiculous amounts of money I used to spend at Wal*Mart. This is posted purely out of concern for others who might succumb to the )

I have wandered the store for hours without seeing a single blue vest. I think that they would hide when they saw me coming.

The thing about that is Wal*Mart actually gets shopped, and it is difficult to maintain a preferable associate to customer ratio considering the high volume of customers. The nature of the work is such that most individuals who could potentially be employed there are not capable of handling it.

No, I'm not saying that I saw associates helping other customers, and could not find anyone to help me, I'm saying that it was a customer service wasteland. There were tumbleweeds rolling down the aisles.
Now I don't shop there anymore. Don't worry, though, I'm sure that the loss of my holiday sales won't affect your Xmas bonus.

I waited in vain for a half hour to get my poor crippled daughter a tiny goldfish to bring some small joy into her tragic existance.
(This story is partially true.)

That's my point. All the salesfloor associates were, quite likely, at the front-end, cashiering. Once people have their shit in their carts and are ready to check out, it is crucial to get them the fuck out of the store as quick as possible, or else they start to get upset.
Either that, or you weren't shopping at peak-time, which means that there was less staffing and that staffing was focused on tasks to recover from peak times. Business is volume-orientated. This isn't necessarily preferable, but reflects the fact that a ton of people shop in these stores.
I'm personally the king of customer service, by the way.

Eh, you lucked out. Most of the fish there were dead or dying, anyway.
