dried WBS/ LC ?

I have some pint jars with WBS that were inoculated on 11/1. They have spawned and grew for a bit, but have stalled and remaining wbs is obviousely dry. What do I do? Can I just spawn my poo with the unfinished jars? just pour out uncolonized bs and throw in poo? I started my firs LC 5 days ago and it does appear that the spores have germinated. White flowing growing myc snakes in there. but through out the white growth there are black specks. I hopin it just the spores. Thats my guess but it my first LC. So when I make syringe outa this lc, can I use all of the water, or do I have to soak up the white growth only? thanks all.

that doesnt sound good man, spores are microscopic. i'd say chuck that jar, it may be contamed.

If you don't suck up the white stuff you will just be inoculating with water,it wont work, wait till its nice and thick so you can suck allot of mycelium in your syringe

I suppose that you could but I imagine it would do more harm than good,The moisture should really be inside the grains and I think getting them wet now wouldn't really get them going if they are already stalled,This has happened to me numerous times with wbs and that is why I use rye,You can use the jars the way they are just dispose of the uncolonized seed when you spawn and only use the colonized parts, shouldn't pose any problem at all except for that you have less viable spawn to work with,You should be fine,Good luck

yup. sure will keep up what I can get lucky with. Got 9 other half pint jars that I made 7 days later, used WBS pf style, and they are almost fully colonized ald growing steadfast. I been getting second thoughts on bulking with steer manure since I never done before. might just case with 50/50. Thanks for the words, I shall prepare myself for the next steps.

nonsense. this is fairly typical in a liquid culture and shouldn't be a problem. spores tend to clump together which makes the visible. this is the same reason you can sometimes see the spores in a spore syringe.

Yes, I've definitely seen chunks of spores in my liquid cultures as well as spore syringes. Just let the myc grow. If the black dots get bigger, that's bad. If the myc gets bigger and more abundant and the black dots just chill, you're straight.

black dots have NOT grown larger, but have remained the same visually, and the myc is growing nicely(i think). So is the LC about ready to be used? inoculated via B+ print scrapings on 11/14. Time to make some jars I'm hopin.

It's ready to use as soon as it's visible to the eye, but you shouldn't use it to inoculate directly if it's your only LC jar. You risk contaminating it by taking LC from it on a frequent basis.
Make that your master LC jar. Wait a little longer, and then when the mycelium is bigger, use that to inoculate a few additional LC jars, and then use mycelium from those to inoculate your substrate. Keep the master jar in the fridge for use on more LC jars later. You have to wait a bit more but LC to LC is fast and worth it.
The black dots are probably sediment, or impurities from the water if you used tap.
What type of lids are you using on your WBS jars? You either messed up here (i.e, by using jar -> tyvek -> ring but no lid) or by messing up the initial water content.
You can test the water content after hydrating the WBS, by pressing some grain between the nail of your index finger and your thumb. If it doesn't feel hard and easily breaks in two, it's ready to be PCd.
