Difference in old spores
    #630423 - 05/14/02 11:29 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Hello, spores deterierate over time right? What type of problems would you run into using old spores? I rescently put a fully colonized jar into my fruiting chamber that took nearly 8 weeks to fully colonize. Are the mushrooms going to be of low quality etc?

What strain was it? The boomers will still be the same quality. The thing is this. If it took that long to colonize it will probably take just as long to fruit, and if and when it does fruit you may not get much of a yeild. I normally throw out the jars that take that long.

No, quality / potency should be par.

I've used year-old syringe spores before and had full colonization in 2 weeks. Weird, since most people say syringes last typically a year when stored right.

The only thing that the age of the spore affects is how long they take to show signs of germination after that everything should be the same. At least that has been my experience.
