Want to list tips to look for when choosing a vendor? I'd have to say that what other shroomerites think about a vendor is very important. So, my tip is to pay close attention to the rating system when ordering from a vendor....... Next.

So, do you think the ratings are hurting or potentially hurting vendor's business?

I think the rating system is dumb.
I was hoping vendors would see that having these meaningless ratings next to their names is going to make newbies think twice before ordering from them.
I think the rating system is going to negatively impact vendor sales.
I guess the vendors don't see it that way; or maybe they do not care.

one would have to be a pretty dumb mutherfucker to go by how many little shrooms is by your name in this new rating system. a vendor is a good vendor by more things than that. ass kissing and contests to get people to your site and to have you put their website title under your name is pretty fucking lame.ass kissing and contests dont make a good vendor.dont suck up to asskissers youll get shit on your face.
Excellent product,VERY FAST SHIPPING!!Great vendor www.thesporehaven.com

Wana know how I found my vendor(s)?
I pm'd all kinds of people and asked them how their experience was when ordering? I took information from a dozen average growers and put it to use for myself.. I did the same when I dished out a few thousand for granite countertops for my kitchen and did the same when it came to installing a system in my ride. Why wouldnt you check out the references first when chosing a vendor?

In reply to:
How long has the vendor been in business? In that time, how many posts from customer experiences have they gotten here? How many of them are positive? How many negative?
Sub-categorize the postive and negative feedback; order processing or delivery time? customer relations (communication...)? product quality? etc...
lets not forget, professionalism . something 75% of the venders lack. oh yeah, for a vender to get my business, the must proudly display their "approved by pgf" emblem

When I chose some of the vendors I use for my supplies and spores, I took some time to see what other people had to say about their experiences with these vendors. I also looked at how they (the vendors) replied to any questions, and how familiar they were with their products. Anybody can have a contest and give stuff away, and that's cool. You definately get some business that way, but I'm more interested in someone that will take the time to answer any questions I may have and also has a professional attitude. They must also back their products up, which most of them do. No flames intended, but I'm turned away by vendors who constantly post "buy my stuff! buy my stuff! It's the best!" That's fine every once in awhile, but I don't want to read it every other post. Word of mouth travels fast and if you're a good vendor, you're going to get some positive feedback. Anyway, that's my thought on this topic. I'll shut up now -Bruiser

I would only deal with vendors who have some mycological knowledge and experience.
There are too many vendors whose websites are only pricelists. They are only in it for the money and spread no knowledge. Indeed, they have no knowledge other how to grow a mushroom in a jar and they think that makes them a 'mycologist'.
I grew sea monkeys once, I guess that make me a marine biologist!

Myco-tek:
Most importantly, a person should be free to make their own choice about who they deal with. The only important thing that should be mentioned in all of this is whether or not a vendor is an actual rip-off. Outside of that; it's a matter of personal preference. After all, to some people it doesn't bother them to wait a month for a product so it would be unfair to strike this type of business performance against a vendor which might persuade a person from making the choice that is best for THEM.
I agree. That's why I am a little dumbfounded by the lack of vendor protest of the rating system. The rating system lacks any substance. It's fine for dimwits like me, but I would honestly think the vendors would be up in arms about it.
On another note, I remember before this forum was in existance. Whenever a newbie was going to grow, they would just post a "who should I get my spores from" post in mush cult.....and all the vendors would come running with their support teams.
These days there is all this fuss over here. All kinds of promotions and arguments saturate this forum. Ahh, I forgot my point.
Later.

OTD may be the armpit of the shroomery, but the vendor's forum is the asshole. This is the only forum Thor has ever been so upset about that he wanted to shut it down. All you kiddies with your puppets trying to one up one another......fucking juveniles.
I guess that's why you have to moderate yourselves.

RoadKill, kudos, you do an excellent job modding this forum, especially when dealing with people who act like children. And I agree, the rating system is useless at best. I have a rating, and I haven't done anything to warrant one (at least I don't think so).
