Year Of The Lib. (Psilocybe Semilanceata Pics)

a coon inspired "year of the lib" :hehehe:

well my season is over, i wont be going back again till next year.
so i thought id bore u all to death with my compelation of pics from this years liberty cap hunting. :tongue:

from these pics its not hard to see why novice pickers get so confused about p. semilanceata.
massive variations in size shape and colour of caps, even after 10 years of experience, sometimes i have to look twice before i can be sure wot they are.

ok lets start with the unusual specimens i found this year...

my favorite, the blue lib.



the orange lib.



i think this one is p. strictipes but not totally sure on that.
ive never seen semilanceata with a partial veil before.



and of course, the usual suspects.























and heres how the season panned out for me.
despite having the hottest and driest september on record, the mushrooms were already growing!
(partly due to the fact that my lib fields have many springs i guess & high altitude)

then we had some decent rainfall and the temperatures dropped.

well it may seem from those pics that i had a great season,
but 60 hours of walking went into finding those! so really it has not been a great season.

Wow, that is a lot of liberty caps, nice finds, what is that like 100 pounds wet? That is amazing that you can actually get that much in a season.

And I was wondering, are Liberty caps found in Washington state? cause I have never seen posts about liberty cap finds in WA.

Hey, you should edit some stuff into your post, so when people search for info on liberty caps, they'll find your thread easier.

Put in like Psilocybe semilanceata, Liberty Caps, (you arlready have libs), Pictures of Liberty Caps, etc...

well it was 12oz dry so 120oz ish wet... how many ounces in a pound?
im too high to work it out, but i know its nothing like 100lbs :hehehe:
washington state! thats a very good area to finds libs i believe, but im no expert on the US.

ahhh it was posted before curecat, in my lib finds thread.
id not heard of them before i saw with my own eyes!
it wasnt just orange capped but orange gills and orange stem also...
i was in doubt myself, so i went for the pellicle test...

well the ones u bagged are kinda blue/orange, although on the orange ones it seems that the colouration is restricted to the caps, where as mine were orange thru and thru, did the blue one look more blue in natural light by any chance? its all good stuff :thumbup:

i find them in washington around the end of season, about the time they start to come up monsterously large. the orrange ones i've found have extremely pale sporeless gills and tend to be rather robust and large.

They were much more orange when fresh in the sunshine. But there was nothing else they could be :smile:

In natural light, yes, just like yours, an ethereal blue, they certainly are perty
