New laptop question
    #6297100 - 11/18/06 02:44 PM (17 years, 4 months ago)

The new laptops, lets say you need a password right when it boots up, how can you bypass this? Would taking a battery out inside the laptop do it?

I believe its not a windows password, but a cmos password that is asked for the minute you turn the pc on, so you don't get a chance to boot up the windows xp cd or anything.

Ohh it's not for me, it's my friend who got it from his dad who got it from someone he worked with. He's just trying to figure out how to bypass that password.

the easiest way is for him to ask his dad to ask that friend what the password is

open up the laptop, and clear the CMOS if the mobo allows you to. I don't know much about laptop mobos

i just suggest that if its stolen just go with

1. clear cmos on motherboard by searching the laptop model and all that shit online.

2. remove motherboard battery and let it sit for i forget how long.

Remove the CMOS battery and hold the power button for 30 seconds to let the residual charge drain. You also have to unplug it and take out the main battery...

Yeah I think thats the best option (taking out the battery and letting the power drain off). My friends going to bring it over in a few days, I'll open er up and take a look.
and thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.
