Ok, now how can you CONTROL your humidity?
    #628866 - 05/13/02 10:19 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

hi, i know that this is a really newbie question, but i am towards the end of my casing, and have been reading many posts here, and i always see that in your terranium, your humidity should be between 85%-92% for cropping. how would you measure your humidity? im not using a regular casing either, im using a bucket, with dung in the bottom of it (no cassaroll pans) and i am conserned about its humidity, and how i can measure it. im sure one of you more knowledgeables could fill in the gap for me!
thanks
peace

you can go to any discount store (kmart, walmart, etc) and purchase a hygrometer. it will give you the actual humidity readings of your chamber.

They make a gauge that measures it...Its called a hygrometer. I recommend getting one with a calibration screw or at least a digital one. Do not get a cheapo one with a coil because they are not accurate.

How do you CONTROL the humidity? [Re: rain_angel]
    #628935 - 05/13/02 11:17 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Ok, now that i know how to measure the humidity, what are things i can do to raise/lower the humidity?? i am casing in a bucket (no cassaroll pans) with straight dung. i put jiffy mix on the top of it with crushed oyster shells. so im wondering how i could raise it if its needed, or drop it if its not. ok, thanks for your help!

should i mist the casing directly? i really dont have the option to mist the walls, since its in a bucket, it wont hurt it will it? also, for fanning, what if i was to just leave the top open? its in an air, with a air purifier running, so that will probably help keep out contams. thanks

Yes. Mist the casing. Keep it moist. You don't want that drying out. I would still suggest keepin git covered and just fan it.

cool so can i just keep the lid that came with the bucket on it? should i poke holes in it or anything like that? also, i dont have that much room in my box, so should i spray the top lid and the casing soil directly? ive heard that its good to spray the casing soil, and ive also heard its not.
ok thanks for your time

I'd spray the sides.. leave the lid intact to keep moisture in there. Mist then fan. Or i fan then mist.. then fan again. I just heard that's better. Up to 3 times a day (but not completely necessary) That's all i can think of
