It's possible the contaminant is active in both and you just saw it first in the crumbled ones, or crumbling allowed it the air it needed to reproduce. Remember, trichoderma mycelium is white. RR

This happened because uncrumbled cakes are 100% colonized on the outside. When something is 100% colonized it has resistance to contam, because all available nutrients are protected by the myc. You likely crumbled before the inside of the cake was colonized. This exposed free nutrients to the open air of your FC. Or there is a hole in your technique which opens you to contams. My 2 cents: stick with cakes for a couple more runs. Work on being SUPER clean when you crumble your cakes. And if you haven't already, GET THAT CONTAMED STUFF OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!

i put the contams in the garbage and sprayed the shit outta it with lysol... there were pins in the casing I spotted it in so I'm tryin to salvage it..... by the way both the uncased crumbled cakes (1 half pint PF cake crumbled into two....) were in sepearte airtight containers.... I'm not worried about contams spreadin.. it's cold as fuck an dry here, and those two isolated incidents were the only contams I've seen so far on my journey...
Input?
peace and

If there was ANY sign of contam toss it! You said your not worried because this is the first sign of contams you have had so far? If you don't take proper procedures to make sure it is removed completely, I can assure you it wont be your LAST! No contaminated substrate is EVER worth salvaging. In the long run your just pumping the air in the growing environment with foreign spores. Good luck man! peace & prosperity

Your journey has been a short one, there a lot you will encounter Don't understand the second question your posting, but RR is right about your first one. Input? Don't skip any steps in sanitation. Even if you get away with some open air innocs.

Very true, caseing layer contams can't be dealth with, but when you have nasties down in the substrate, its pretty much over. You will start producting mold spores on a major scale.
