Contaminated? Please help...
    #6285471 - 11/15/06 10:03 AM (17 years, 4 months ago)

This is my first grow (n00b alert) and these cakes have some bluing on them. Are they contaminated?

Thanks in advance!

Looks extremely blue (not that contams don't show up bluish) to me to be a contaminant, though time will certainly tell.

From what I've seen, its the mossy green that is more prevalent.

Do you remember handling it in that area, or picking any aborts from that area?

It's bluing from stress. Rake the perlite back from around the jar lids they're sitting on. Don't allow the mycelium to colonize into the perlite. Cut it where it is if needed.

No aborts have been picked at all from these cakes. The only handling has been for the birthing; I don't know if that area was touched specifically. But, this bluing is on all three cakes - does that offer any clues?

Thank you!

Will do!
Should I expect the bluing to diminish after that, or will it continue?

Thank you!

Awww, fatties.

That is not mold, just bruising, as stated above.

The bruising is a normal occurrence. If the mycelium is crushed or dries out, the psilocin oxidizes. Bruising is nothing to be concerned with. It may or may not go away, and mycelium bruises very easily, physical contact is not necessary for blue bruising to occur.

Good info - thanks!

What can I do to reduce the stress on future grows?  Also, would dunking after the first flush help reduce the stress?

I really appreciate your help, guys - thank you!

Make sure your fruiting conditions are optimal after birthing- You want to increase fresh air exchange, your pins look fat, which is a result of poor air exchange.

Dunking after each flush is certainly a good measure.

Would it be better to have an opening in the top of terrarium, or just fan them more often?
