is this true about the rye that it needs to be simmered. i currently only use wbs and I dont simmer just throw it in a pot and let it soak. Sometimes get the water hot. I have used rye before without contams all I did was put one cup in the jar and 2/3 to 3/4 cup of water and PC. No soaking or anything and it worked just fine. What I am asking is this just for rye and wbs does not need the simmer but rye does

So I'm having ZERO luck with rye but I don't want to give up on it yet. Tried innoc with 1-2cc, two different strains, tried innoc with marble sized piece of colonized pf cake, negative - the piece just sits there not growing out into the rye. No contams - all good there. Followed this tek to the letter, tried another tek without soaking. Inc @ 26-29C. Still nothing. Then it occurs to me..."I wonder if this rye has been treated with fungicide"
Grasping at straws here, seed came from feed supply store - not sure if it's been treated. But I'm getting a little frustrated.
I have 1L of B+ LC in the inc now so I'll keep trying.

Notgoodusername, Feed store rye 'seed' often has fungicides, but is the wrong thing to use anyway. You want rye berries. It comes from a different plant. You can get your local health food store to order organic rye berries for you. I get 25 pound bags for $8, and that's in a large city. If you live in a smaller town, you can probably get it cheaper. i saw rye berries at a health food store i know of.
is there any danger of them being 'hulled' or does that only apply to millet?
im asking because these people seem like the type who will be like "what do u mean hulled?"
then i explain and they'll be like" well i dont know."

RR,
That's the first I've heard that, here is what I'm using. I'm pretty sure in my case, rye 'seed' is the same as rye 'berries'. Nevertheless, I'm gonna ditch these and try another source. I can't figure out any other reason for the failure I'm having.

Anything that is treated with fungicides or any other chemical is clearly marked on the grain with a very disgusting looking red color. Trust me, YOU can tell if its treated grain. All Treated grain is required by federal law to have this coating to distinguish it from other grain.
