Bad year in the PNW?? reasons??

The other day I was sitting in ecology class and the teacher was going into various climatic cycles, ya know the really interesting stuff. And in the middle of all that hyper-exciting climatology my teacher said something that caught my attention and I figured you guys would like to hear about it.
Well saving everyone the details of ENSO(El Nino Southern Oscillation) it is pretty much a weakening of the trade winds over the southern pacific which in turn causes surface water temperatures to increase in the mid ocean longitudes. This causes changes in precipitation in south east Asia/Australia as well as western north and south America. (so areas that normally receive lots of rain like you guys up in the PNW will have much less precipitation)
After looking through several diagrams on the topic the teacher put one up of this year's conditions and some predictions that are being made about ENSO. Due to surface water temperature readings in several temp arrays in the pacific it looks like this is an El Nino year! This would explain why "some are calling this the worst year ever".
Just putting my two cents in...so what do you guys think?

yournot looking hard enough then. theya re out there man, they are out there indeed and grwoing like grass. i've already found 4 solid patches two of which are completely secluded and all mine! if you put in your hunting hours you will find them.
and yea, who said its the worst year ever??? its pouring out right now and has been for 10 strait days. theres all kinds of rivers flooding right now and there have even been a few casualties from all the river flooding. there are like lakes and shit in some parks around my area from all the rain...not to mention there isnt a lick of clearing in the forecast as of yet, rain for at least a full week is wat the forecast shows
i dont know where your getting you infromation as far as "the worst year ever". just check out the PNW finds thread, ITS BOOOMING!

Your right, I know its been raining the last two weeks, but obviously there are other factors that influence our CLIMATE than simply one cycle(ENSO in this case). Also, I was just offering a theory to what I have seen people say, for I do not reside in the PNW, I must go from anecdotal information. A third point in reply is that the science community as a whole does not know for sure that it's even an El Nino year at this point in time; that is what the data are pointing to though.
If you noticed above I capitalized the word "climate" to draw a distinction between climate and weather. Weather is a short term phenomenon while climate is the long term average of weather. Unless you are a statistics professor or a climatologist I do not think you are qualified to determine if "its all changed now" or that the season "is here now." The interaction between the atmosphere and the hydrologic cycle is hardly understood by experts in the field so I don't see how you guys could shoot down my input so easily (all of you know more than myself on the topic of shrooming but I doubt that your knowledge of ecology/climatology is really that far advanced than my own). Two weeks of rain is hardly enough to claim that everything I said was incorrect. So if you would like to add some other input I'd love to hear what you guys have to say .
Finally, I would like to clarify one point, I said earlier "this year" in reference to El Nino conditions. Obviously this is a hard statement to make seeming that nature does not conform to our time keeping methods (damn you mother nature!) but what I really meant was "currently, and in the near to semi-immediate future". We'll see how the season is doin next year.

Definitely a late season, but barely into it, my best season!

I'm here around seattle, and had no luck either, so dont feel bad. They were never this hard to find in the redwoods.

I do not think it is that bad of a season. The season started out slow then has really picked up pace. Most of my old hunting grounds are not producing as much, but I am finding many new areas that are. You just got to put in the work. That is where I collect my enjoyment. It is the new discoveries that are exciting.

I completely agree with you.
I went hunting over the weekend, and rather than spending my time at a couple patches I know about, I decided to spend it by hunting new areas I've never seen. I had a great time, regardless of how little I found.
I've heard the same from several other shroomerites. The best part of hunting really is finding new stuff. This may be a bit of overkill for some people, but I enjoy finding them even more than tripping.
Later.
