Thanks to all who have reponded to my questions in the forum- your patience and knowledge has been a motivation for my first go at growing. couple more questions: is a cigarette lighter ok for sterilizing a needle? also, my syringe is for diabetics, goes up to probably 100cc, so when I tried squirting out my spore solution, it was difficulot to tell if I was applying enough pressure (I saw some drops run down the side, by when I didn't, I just kept pushing the syringe, so I ended up using probably 100cc for 12 jars)... (but the solution wasn't dense). Can I get a more accurate syringe someplace else? any recomendatitions would be great.

Yes, a lighter is just fine for sterilizing the needle. What I do is wipe it with an alcohol swab (they are like a dollar for 100 at wallmart), flame, then wipe it again. That might be a little much but I'm just extra careful.
As for your syringe. Where the hell did you get a syringe that big? 100cc DAMN! It sounds like a lot of extra moisture in the jar. If my thinking is right thats about 8 cc's too many. Same amount of spores..Yes. Same amount of water...No. I think it should be OK but it might take a little longer to germinate due to excess water. It might have to evaporate a little bit first. I could be wrong though. I have been known to be wrong in the past...LOL. I think you can get a smaller syringe at like a ranch store. Some of the syringes are bigger for horses but I think they carry smaller ones for smaller animals. I would go for a 10cc or 12cc. Check it out. After I bought my first syringes I saved them all and now I just reuse those.
Keep us posted on your results. Best of luck to ya!

A diabetics syringe is only 1cc. You are looking at the units mark. I think that it could be mililiters, but I am not sure. My guess is you used no where near enough spores. You just used 1cc for twelve jars instead of 1cc per jar. That is 1/12 the recomended amount.

diabetic syringes arent good for jar injections because they are too small, and the spores tend to get clogged up inside the needle.
a 100 cubic centimeter syringe would be roughly be the size of your forearm.=)
