seattle cyans yay!!
    #1991298 - 10/08/03 08:22 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

ahh yes 5 patches in seattle and one patch in the mt vernon area were checked today by myself and cardboard. 3 patches in seattle and the other were fruiting however only two patches yielded mature fruits. At least I can sleep better knowing my favorite spot is booming hard and has not yet been found by prying eyes:) Ill see if cardboard wants to post some pics. the seattle cyans have some different features than their brothers and sisters to the north. will try to get some pics illustrating these points tonight if possible.

yes actually lighter caps and some interesting fibril remnants near the apex of the cap forming a little ring around the developing umbo. Found a great example of this today. I note this tendency from several parks in seattle but not at all in bellingham. I also find that the caps are thicker fleshed and the stems persist further into the substrate than the bellingham variety. These are not just variances noted this year either. They have been consistent for all the years I have been able to compare these 2 strains. Also it seems that the cyans in seattle pop about a week or so sooner than their bham relatives regardless of the weather.

Man....It sucks to live right in the middle of all these wonderful fungi, but not have a clue on where to start looking for Cyans...

Only found them once, and they were immature so I left them there.

Then I came back and found that someone had rooted up the whole damn patch of babies :frown:

So sad
