sproe print question

Ok ive been reading the forum now for a week before I even start to make cakes. I feel that im very luck for finding this website because of all the experts here helping out the newbs. So thanks everyone.
Ok on to my question. I was reading something last nite that someone said they like spore syringes beter then prints because you can use spore syringes right away. I thought that you could use prints the same way just open your print up and scrape some off into your jars. Is this true or do you have to make spore syringes before you can put them into your jars? Thanks
My friend that doesnt have a computer wanted me to ask this for him. I used I so it would be easier to write

You can just scrape them into the jar. I personally do not suggest it though. Risk for contams is a little too high for me. Syringes, made or purchased, are by far the easiest way and there is less risk for contams. Normally when someone transfers spores from print to media (such as petri dishes) they are doing that so they can isolate a particular mycelial growth (a little more advanced technique). If you are just starting and your upcoming mission in mycology is your first, I would suggest buying a syringe. And if you have a print, make a syringe. Best of luck to ya. Keep us all posted on your progress, maybe post some pics. Peace, StainBlue

That is true. Definitatly hydrate them for 24 hrs in the syringe after you make it.

I just use the prints and scrape some spores into the jars. Works just fine.
As for hydrating the spores, that only applies if you're making a syringe and even then it's not necessary as they will rehydrate just fine in the damp substrate.
