Really Basic Question on Music While Tripping

Please pardon the very basic question, but I have been reading this forum for several weeks and have not seen it answered.
What is the purpose of "tripping music"? Is it 1. That certain types of music sound especially beautiful while tripping? 2. The sounds of the music help induce a more intense experience? 3. The words of the music offer insight while tripping? 4. All of the above? 5. Other?
I've never done LSD. I've experienced music while using LSA and while it did sound a bit different, it was more of a distortion than anything particularly beautiful or insightful.

all of the above. the thing is,when your tripping everything is so wierd and unorganized and just eveyrthing flows and has no real conjunction. when you listen to music its really really really clear and crisp and you can hear things in the beats that you never hear while sober. music is pretty mcuh the SHIT! on shrooms.

LSA sucks compared to LSD IMO.
Music on LSD provides you what you're looking for. i know it's a cliche to say, but you can see the music. The speakers give birth to objects and artforms that fill the room and your close-eyed visuals will morph and dance to the music. Music and tripping go hand in hand to me.

LSD has a most stellar effect on music, and find that the music can greatly affect your trip in both positive, negative and simply peculiar ways.
My preference while tripping on LSD is /generally/ more towards the minimal side of Techno. The music while 'sober' is heady, spacey, trippy - and has the ability to take me deeper into my head. Since the music is not dense and over-produced, the 'space' in the music allows for your head to sort of fill in the blanks. When this is combined with psychedelics, it really adds a whole new level to the music expierence and can take you on a journey.
That being said, the type of music can really alter the trip.
Listening to something very ambient like Pete Namlook - Fires of Ork for me, is like taking a vacation for my mind - its very soothing, realxing and makes me feel very much at peace and at ease.
Listening to something like say, Plastikman and his Closer or Consumed records, is like boarding a trip into the dark eerie depths of my mind. The music is dull, droney, bass heavy, hypnotic and repetitive (I mean this in a good way, I love the stuff - even sober), but seems to guide the trip into very 'deep' places of my mind.
Putting on something like say, a Speedy J DJ set - fast, hard dense techno, its like life becomes a celebration of chaos - seeing the beauty in disorginzation. One moment it can have me feeling like I'm king shit of the world - it motivates me, energizes me, then the set can take a twist and have me wrapped up in self doubts, fears, anxiety - only to build up into a 'fuck it all' attitude that can send me storming on down and feeling great.
Listening to something like Psytrance gives me the feeling of 'going out of my head' - while some music seems to take you into your head, pysgtrance seems to make me want to leave my head.
Then, some sounds can just have the most strange effect. I recall one day flipping though some psytrance and listening to a producer called Derango (sp?) --- it felt like a drill was pressing into my head with this /constnatly/ increasing pressure, the pressure built and built and built - the visuals around me went from 'happy' to that of a war-torn world with blood and decay, eventually it felt as if my head exploded - and splattered over every surface in my room was images of me pointing back at me and laughing manically.
Another time I flipped across some industrial music, and it felt as if my body was being impaled by needles -- I quickly switched the song.
Generally speaking, I dont listen to music with lyrics in general - I'm a big fan of EDM/Techno and most 'lyrics' are more just looped samples. That being said, there has been a few times where lyrics in a set have seemed to have an odd connection with my trip.
I remeber one day, listening to Richie Hawtin: DE9 Transitions - this is a beautiful CD, its like a vacation for the mind even sober, its like travleing on a journy from highs, to lows, to facing your doubts and then the release of accepting and understanding. I was on a high dose of LSD and listening to this, and at one point the set started to get a bit 'intense' and I wanted to turn it - but kept listening anyways, then I could feel all my anxiety swell up into me as the music progressed, then it 'switched' and went into this ethreal airy-space and I could just feel all of this anxiety and fears of my life flow out of me and into the world around me and felt amazing.
I got up from the spot I was sitting (was hiking along some trails in toronto) because I saw some homeless people walking by (for the 2nd or so time, so I figured I was in their space), I walk away a bit then start looking through my backpack, and the lyrics kickde in where along the line of "Do I have a life? or am I just living?" -- as I was doing this, I was looking for things like my keys, my cellphone, my wallet - and it got me thinking "do I really have a life? or am I just following the motions, doing whats expected?", I then looked back towards the homeless and then it said something along the lines of "face the direction of your future", I then looked towards the city - and it said "and make your transition" --- it just synched up in such away that it made me go 'wow' - its like, we have all of these things that we hold onto, our cell phones, our PDAs, our computers - and yet we think we are living? and yet - the choice to make or our transition can lead us into being homeless, or having possibility.
Sorry for the ramble, but in short - LSD + Music is an amazing thing.
Most importantly is listening to music you already like, but dont be afraid to go out and explore other genres - it can really give you a whole new appreciation for music that you never had before, and it can carry over into your sober life easily.

it fits the experience quite well. druggy music (lots of reverb, echo like vocals, long experimental jams, effects) is the most effective, in my opinion. it could be intense.
i recommend Bardo Pond and Dead Meadow.

I tend to groove off artists who have eaten plenty of medicine themselves. On LSD, Bob Dylan cracks me up. That guy's nothing but trouble! (In a great way.) And I know this is a big cliche, but the psychadelic songs by the Beatles are great (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (the chorus flips you out), Strawberry Fields, etc.).
I find that LSD exposes artists who make music just to add to their sex appeal. (Uncle Cracker, Lighthouse, etc.) They sound like such fools that it is very funny, but not for very long!

The only thing I've listened to while tripping so far is Tool, and every time I listen to it I feel like doing (and do) something creative, like drawing or writing.

The music I used when I smoked and did shrooms the most was Dj Shadow. His stuff is trippy enough sober and when you listen on something, you really get taken to another place.
I found another amazing artist Im going to try out on my next shroom trip. BT, and his cd/dvd This Binary Universe.
If you havent seen/heard this dvd go get it. I've only watched it sober, but even then it was like the itunes visualizer^100. I cant imagine what it will be like when I find my first patch of cyans and watch this shit.
Amazing no doubt.
In other news, I remember once when I was candyflipping I closed my eyes and saw my friends moving in and out of this red mist raving with glowsticks. It was an extremely vivid visual and went to the music perfectly. Then when I opened my eyes again I saw neon guitar strings on the ceiling being plucked to the music, and a swirling fractal behind them. Probably the best visual I have ever seen.

One thing I notice when I did shrooms for the first time is I really connected with the music. It was "animals" by Pink Floyd, I felt like I was really understanding the music. I started to notice that if used right weed could produce the same affect. If you trip really hard music is not something you want to be around, well atleast not me. For me the music starts to change and almost becomes scarry, for others it might be the best. I say about 3 grams and the CD "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" and I will be good for the night.
