Court clerk accused of swiping cocaine after trial
A Westmoreland County court clerk in charge of securing evidence for Judge Richard E. McCormick Jr. was charged Wednesday with stealing 5 grams of cocaine after a recent drug trial.
Therece Lynn McCloskey, 37, of 105 Shaft Way, Greensburg, who formerly lived in New Kensington, told county detectives she took the cocaine after the trial of Robert E. Chambers II, of New Kensington, because she was having financial difficulties. Court records allege that McCloskey sold the cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $500.
McCloskey, a $23,500-a-year clerk in McCormick's office, admitted to the theft shortly after Chambers' trial. He awaits sentencing after being found guilty Oct. 3 of two counts of possession and manufacturing a controlled substance.
"It occurred after the trial, so it did not impact that case," said District Attorney John Peck.
Peck believes McCloskey acted alone. County detectives researched evidence from 100 previous cases before McCormick and found no indication of any previous evidence tampering, according to Peck.
"The judge and his staff completely cooperated and, in fact, it was Judge McCormick who first brought it to our attention," Peck said.
McCloskey, who started her full-time position April 5, 2004, was terminated Oct. 11. She had held part-time positions with the county government since 2001.
According to the arrest affidavit, McCormick said it is standard procedure to collect evidence at the conclusion of a trial and to store it in a locked safe in his office. McCormick said McCloskey was in charge of collecting the evidence.
"Therece McCloskey, rather than contacting the judge and having the drugs locked in the safe, placed these drugs in a desk drawer, in the courtroom overnight," the affidavit said.
County Detective George Boyerinas said county records indicate that on Oct. 3, McCloskey returned to the courthouse after-hours. Records show she signed herself back into the courthouse at 7:40 p.m. and left at 7:55 p.m.
Boyerinas said it appeared that McCloskey resealed the plastic bag holding a large amount of cocaine using a piece of tape. Detectives weighed the drugs later and discovered it weighed 5 grams less than during the trial.
McCloskey's fingerprints were discovered on the tape used to reseal the bag, detectives reported.
McCloskey was arraigned yesterday before Youngwood District Judge James Falcon and released on signature bond pending a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Nov. 16. before Greensburg District Judge James Albert.

I'd have taken 4 and a half grams and replaced it with 4 and a half grams of baking powder. If they analysed it it would still test positive for coke, and I'd have some stash

Honestly, I've known people to pay $100 a gram for good stuff. it obviously depends on the quality and the area, and $100 a gram is pretty fucking high, but stranger things have happened.
