    #6269401 - 11/10/06 03:49 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

growing pcube Amazons on Oak blocks was highly recommended to me,
oak blocks are as explained to me basically shaved oak wood sterilized and compressed into a block
I haven't found much on the shroomery about this
does anyone have experience, pics or links to this
thanks

wood based substrates are not suitable to grow cubensis on.

whoever highly reccomended that to you, gave you some bunk advice, or there was some confusion as to what exactly you were trying to grow

there are wood loving species... cubensis just isn't one of them.

Oak sawdust blocks sound better for growing edibles such as shiitake or hericium. I don't really know how they'd work for wood loving psilocybes -- probly alright, but my research tells me that they like alder chips, not oak sawdust. However, they would definitely not work for cubies.

you can certainly use oak or about any other hardwood for a substrate, simply
inoculate the wood chips with grain spawn from one fo the following, I cultivate
Ps. azurescens, Ps. Subaeruginosa, Ps. Cyanescens...

They'll grow on wood if they're hungry enough, but it isn't their favorite food, that's for sure. Here's Redboy strain fruiting from a block of hardwood chips.

You should write a book on "101 p. cubensis substrates that you never thought of" with pictures and information
