UV Lamp sterilization?
    #6267892 - 11/10/06 04:42 AM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Hi there,
i was wondering wheter is possible to sterilize tools as syringes, blades, tinfoil or paper with an UV lamp.

- Theorically after a bath in water + 10% bleach of 12 hours can you sterilize the used plastic petri and do not have contaminations?

- In which raw material should be the box to stop the ultraviolet rays?

- Plastic, 100% opacity, works?

- How much time is needed to sterilize something?

Thank you!
Fabio

i mean to sterilize empty petri then fill them with pressure cooked media.

If the box is entire closed UV shouldn't reach my cells.

More info are appreciated!

Fabio

i'm not planning to sterilize media or substrate with UV rays!

my cousin that is a biologist says that she uses UV lamp for around a minute to sterilize tools and EMPTY petris. i don't know if you've ever seen that some fabrics sell cheap plastic petri unsterilized for this use..

And yes just the UV-C rays work..

For me is far better use UV rays with empty petris because i can my pressure cooker just of agar jars (i've unlucky got a 7.5 psi one, you can't imagine what a mess..)
