My first attempt at PF Tek method (picture guide)

This is my first attempt at it so i figured i would document it. Right now the jars have been incubating at 80-86 degrees F for 19 days and i will begin fruiting on Sunday, I think. I have taken pictures of the mycelium at several stages of their growth up to today. I will begin by listing the substrate ingredients with picures (all prices include an 8.6% sales tax): ^Vermiculite from The Home Depot, $12.86 for 2 bags ^All Natural Brown Rice Flour from Frys Food and Drug, $3.02 one bag
^Distilled Water from Frys Food and Drug, $1.92 for 2 gallons ^Kerr Wide Mouth Canning Jars from Frys Food and Drug, $10.80 for 12 one pint jars
^Spore Syrings from Ralphster.com (I use only Golden Teacher in this batch, $48.00 shipped express for 2 syringes GT and B+
^Electric Pressure Cooker from some chick on Craigslist, $20.00
That's basically all that i used to get this started. I used my small bathroom for the inoculation. And i sterilized the fuck out of that room with Lysol disinfectant. I wore a mask and gloves too. The cooker could only hold 3 jares at a time so i did one batch on a saturday night and then another the next night. So 3 of the jars are 1 day ahead. Here are the jars in order of growth progression:
 ^10-13-06 Day 5.5 ^10-14-06 Day 6.5 FRONT VIEW
^10-14-06 Day 6.5 BACK VIEW
^10-23-06 Day 15 FRONT VIEW
^10-23-06 Day 15 BACK VIEW
^10-27-06 Day 19
^10-27-06 Day 19
^This is what im using to keep the temp up above 82. It's on top of the cabinets in my kitchen. I keep the light on it with that black blanket on top. Ghetto but it's working.
I have kept all my receipts for this little venture and the total investment is $185.26. It could have been a lot cheaper but i want to do it right the first time. I plan on putting one of the jars in the tank with some perlite on sunday. I think im just going to do it straight from the jar to the fruiting chamber. I'm open to suggestions though. I've done a lot or research on psilicybe cubensis cultivation and after this first attempt i am going to isolating a single genome strain and use a casing method. I hope this all works out. Comments welcome...And i will keep this up to date.
Lastly I will share a picture with you all. I've browsed the forums and noticed that a lot of you like alex grey as well. This one I bought after a tool show in 2002.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that most of the jars have retained some moisture on the inside next to the mycelium. Is this anything to be worried about? I assume it's because the substrate mixture was a little too watery. Is that also correct?

looking awesome....congrats! keep us posted!
QUESTION - you mention that you think the mixture might have been too wet, and then I see you have two jar inverted. I had heard that a potential problem with this is the "dry" verm on top will get soaked, and potential be a problem for contams?
Anywho....looking good!

what's the size of those jars? Pint's??
IME, i have had pins form on pint jars before they were completely colonized. I hope it doesn't happen to you. Good luck!
here's a pic of 10 - 1/2 pt. cakes cased. Lovely

Thanks for all the complements everyone! Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Those jars are full pint jars. If i do the cake method again i will use smaller jars so it doesn't take so long to colonize. To reply to your question Tahoe58, I hadn't even thought of that as a possibility. So that's interesting. I turned 3 of the jars upsidedown after a little more than half colonization. The other three have been right side up the entire time and they also have moisture buildup on the inner glass.

hey man...ur stuff still looking real good. My comments just came from what I had read, and in ur case with knowlingly wet jars, the problem might be compunded....but ur progressing well - continued GL and karma passed ur way from me! I have been very lucky so far.....all my half pint jars are almost equal in full colonization (Day 18 since inoc), will likely birth in the next few days, then dunk, roll, and place in a PMP (I really like this auto approach to humidity and FAE and seems like many people have some good yields). I am thinking I might take two of six cakes and crumble and case, just to try it out. I'll post some pics again when I have sumthin to show....cheers!

Well I began the fruiting process on Sunday afternoon for one cake and here it is Tuesday evening and here is what i have:

I believe these white bumps are primordia and I am expecting to see some red little bumps on them soon. If I am incorrect please let me know. I wish I had a better camera. The most difficult thing for me has been keeping the temp down and the humidity high. There is a lot of perlite in there. lol.

No, i didn't do anything to the cake after I took it out of the jar except I patted it down with a dry papertowel to soak up the droplets of water. But no dunking this first go round. With the other five cakes I will try different methods. Dunk and roll will be next.

Not to long ago, I read about this guy who was in the same boat. From what I read, he was going to be very systematic and measure every variable... But he decided to dunk after his first flush, because he successfully fruited enough to ensure him and his friends one good time (cough 4g dried/person x3)..and had found it was strongly encouraged on the board..
Anyways..According to the book, after seeing the results, this guy strongly encourages you to dunk. Rumor has it, he made it beyond 7 flushes.. with no contaminations..before the nutes ran out.
