what ever happened to good old plain drunken brawling :drunk:

you dont even really need to learn any specific style to win fights. experience is more important than knowing the moves.

I've dabbled in a few martial arts over the years and everytime I have ever gotten into a fight in the past it always came down to doing whatever it takes to win the fight...rules and 'style' and training go out the window.

When the shit hits the fan it's a survival "me or you" mentality and I've had no problem using anything that's within arms reach as a weapon...and I do mean anything.

Absolutely true. Still if you add just a few practial ideas to your fighting your advantage goes further still. After many years in the martial arts world as a practioner and teacher I feel that 95% of martial arts techniques and teaching is less than worthless. It's dangerous because it gives you a false sense of mastery.

if you do end up going for muay thai, make sure that where you go ACTUALLY trains you in muay thai and not kickboxing. there are a lot of gyms in the US which brand themselves as being muay thai when they're not...one way of knowing it's a muay thai gym is that they train you in clinching.

This doesnt mean they dont teach proper Muay-Thai. Many people view "kickboxing" as an array of fighting styles such as Muay-Thai, Savate, etc. Its an umbrella word.
I first joined a place that taught kickboxing (Muay-Thai was never mentioned) yet the first day there we were working clinches and knees...
You should just go and watch a class and see what they teach, or just ask.
