Dude that isnt necessary, atleast for all of the ones in the picture, those ARE cyans, although not as wavy as the ones I find up here in Washington.
And all cyans will turn that creamish yellowish color after being picked, and some are already like that before I pick them.

thanks for the reassurance hEATOniKgun, I'm spore printing them all, they've all bruised blue...that, along with multiple positive IDs is enough for me to feel good about eating them this weekend

also, urbanism, if you're going to wait till this weekend, you probably should dry them out, otherwise you risk getting bacteria growing all over them. In this way it's like any other perishable mushroom. They'll slowly start getting smellier and darker day by day, and they'll make stomach cramps.
Just put them under a fan, blowing air.
and the other thing about that one from the outdoor pic..I thought, and I'm pretty sure Concrete saw the same thing..It was the color that made me say that onhe might not be cyans, and i have seen other little brown mushrooms grow right next to and among cyans. usually not galerinas tho here in SF among cyans, but not edible either.
For that one, it looked like maybe the stem, cap and the gills were all brown, rather than the 3 colors of cyans, white stem, brown cap, purple gills/spores. But lighting can do that too, and it is a little harder to tell when they are young, although there are some LBMs that also get wavy here and also grow among cyans.
mainly it's the color, which is also the main problem, especially with photos and lighting and people eyes are different.
But once you can tell the color, and know the other colors, it gets pretty easy after that. I was looking at MJ's old newspaper archive and found a few articles from the 70's in Washington where beginners had eaten galerinas mistaking them for cyans, so it has happened

Auweia, I can see the same thing that you guys see in that photo, the mushroom appears to have a brown stem. I think it's just the photo. I've seen some of those look alikes around and have steered clear of them. I'm only picking those that have all of the characteristics of cyans AND have purple/grey gills and white stems.
All of the sporeprints have come back deep purple. They're going under a fan to dry when I get home.
Finding this patch just makes me want to go look for more!

imature cyans, allong with many species of psilocybe have cinimon colored gills, which is extra reason for caution.

that's right, fresh moist and especialy young cyans are rubbery, like most psilocybes and as they begin to dry, they become firm, you have to rip them and as they dry more the begin to become leathery. this is not a safe identifying feature, but it's one helper in getting to know them closely.

Yes, I saw what you folks were hesitant about as well. Just follow the bruising colour, and spore print colour and you should be fine!
Pretty sure it's just lighting.

cc-I'm just sayen ya know, deadly look a likes can grow cap to cap with the non killers. The pic it is hard to tell true but that doesn't mean squat. Better safe than sick or dead.
your cautioning him is highly justified, thats a serious matter. good looking out for the kid.
man, i have a friend who really knows nothing about mushies at all, and i took him out hunting this last weekend, we didn't find any actives, just a bunch of random stuff. then last night he brought over a couple specimens of 2 different kinds of mushies. both of them were growing together in a patch, and he could tell the difference between the two, but didn't know what either of them were...i checked them out and one of the 2 kinds is definately cyans, but the other kind looks like something poisonous, i don't know what it is. He said that he took one of each and crumbled it up in a beer and drank/ate it. i was being really serious and telling him that he should probably be a little bit worried, but he just didn't give a fuck at all...i convinced him to bring me some more of the good ones as well as the bad (possibly?!) ones so i can try to identif them, and make sure he isn't gonna just keel over in a week, but fuck man.

some people; you give them enough rope they'll do something constructive. others; they'll hang themselves. some can do it with a supprisingly small amount of rope.

Congrats urbanism. I've very surprised that San Francisco is fruiting this early in the season.
The west coast weather has been nuts this fall.

I think it helps that that these are getting big time sprinkler action, we've only had two rains so far this year. I looked around the park and found an even bigger patch today, here's what I got my mits on:

my favorite:

There are seriously hundreds of little ones that should be good to go next week. Most of the mature ones are displaying the very light tan color and aren't too wavy (like I've seen in the photos from the PNW) All are bruising blue significantly
